Information Needed in an Investigation

You can provide vital information in an investigation should your child(ren) be kidnapped

  1. Keep current black and white photos of your child(ren) and, where applicable, of the non-custodial parent. Full face photos, together with a profile picture and a list of distinguishing marks. Photos should be taken every two months.
  2. Be sure your children know their full name and address, complete phone number, and how to use the 911 emergency number.
  3. Have your children fingerprinted and obtain an ID Card.
  4. If applicable, have all records concerning divorce and custody in a file with at least five copies. Keep pictures, medical and dental records, birth certificates and other ID that may be helpful.
  5. Try to notice your children's daily attire. Be sure to notify school officials to call you immediately if any of your children are absent.
  6. Instruct your children not to speak to strangers or take anything from them - even if they say that they know them, or if they speak their names as a means of deception. This could even apply to newly acquired friends and acquaintances.
  7. Each child should have his or her own code name that only you and your child know. This name should be held in a confidential file at the school principal's office.
