693. Silas Shobe
"S. SHOBE, is a native of Ross County, Ohio. His father being
a tanner, he was in that business until 1838, when he came to
this place and became a farmer in Perry Township, following
this until 1849, when he started a tan-yard. This business he
conducted until 1854, when he was forced to retire on account
of failing health. After a year and a half's residence in
Iowa, he returned and made a venture in the hardware business
with George McLain, with whom he was associated three years.
From this, in 1859 Mr. Shobe engaged in the livery business,
which he still conducts. He owns fifteen to twenty good
roadsters and fine buggies and carriages. He is a member of
the Masonci Order, Blue Lodge. In September, 1839, he was
married to Miss Mary Smalley, daughter of Joseph Smalley, who
came to Perry Township in 1836. They have six children --
Sarah E. Kerr, Taylor C. (in Ligonier), Isabella Parsons, Mary
Henry (in Coldwater, Mich.), Charles H. and Allie. Mr. Shobe
is one of the oldest business men of Ligonier, and well known

Shobe William A, 85, Dr., pioneer resident of Ligonier, died at
his home Dec. 18. He came to Ligonier with his parents when
about 2 years of age and has resided there since that time,
retiring from a lucrative practice several years ago. In Oct.
1887 he married Jennie Kimmell who died 3 years ago. He was a
member of Ligonier Elks Lodge, the Noble County Medical Society

Shobe Jennie, 66, wife of Dr. W. A. Shobe of this city, passed
away about 9:30 p.m. April 26 in Methodist Hospital, Fort
Wayne, following a serious operation for removal of a growth in
the stomach. She was a daughter of the late Orlando Kimmell of
Sparta Twp and had lived in Noble County and Ligonier all her
life. Surviving are her husband; 2 brothers, Claude and Morton
of Sparta Twp; 4 sisters, Mrs. Willis Kinnison of Garden City,
Kans., Miss Lillian at home, Mrs. Martin Beck and Mrs. Ed
Eagles of Albion. Funeral will be held from the residence on

Shobe Albert, 82, had resided in Ligonier most of his life.
Funeral was conducted at his home Sept. 29. Burial, Oak Park
Cemetery. Surviving are the wife, Nancy; one stepdaughter, Mrs.
Lester Lepird of Fargo, N.D.; one brother, Dr. W. A.; and a
