Varsity Freshmen
Junior Varsity Coaches

        Welcome

The 2007-2008 season was the most successful season in recent memory for the San Marcos Royals. Finishing at 20-8, including a county best 11-game winning streak and two tournament championships, the Royals took second place in Channel League and placed all five starters on the All Channel League First and Second Teams. In addition, Trevor Hopkins, Frank Nordin and Nick Marquez were Santa Barbara News Press All County Selections this year. Trevor led the county in assists, while Brian Pearson and Nick Marquez were one and two in the county in three-point shooting while shooting over 40%. Third year letterman Scott Moll held our opponents' best players to below their average in nearly every game while posting an impressive four-to-one assist to turnover ratio. The Royals hosted the first two rounds of the playoffs in the newly renovated Thunderhut and routed visting Leuzinger in the first round before succumbing to eventual champion M.L. King from Riverside.

The 2008-2009 squad will have big shoes to fill on and off the court. Our Varsity team last year placed seventh out of 566 schools in Southern Section with a combined 3.444 grade point average while competing in the second highest division, 1A. With a strong core of returners including leading scorer Nick Marquez, slasher and rebounder Chris Vines and point guard Bryant Koopmans, it is my vision to see our program rise to even greater heights and become THE PLACE TO LEARN AND PLAY BASKETBALL in Santa Barbara. Our web site -- www.smhoops.net-- is one step toward this goal. Please forward this site to your friends and family and let everyone you know about our game schedule and advertising opportunities.

While our seniors have left big shoes to fill, I am confident our returning players will continue to grow and improve. We will continue to be emphasize the pillars of character, respect, hard work and competition that have made us a successful basketball program. With a new gymnasium soon to be completed, a highly trained and positive coaching staff, hard working and intelligent student-athletes and the support of our community, we are poised to achieve even greater heights. I would like to thank all of you who have supported our student-athletes, myself, our coaches and the school. It is with great enthusiasm and expectations that I look forward to the season and doing everything we can to help our players and our program be the best we can be!

Sincerely,

Coach Jarrod Bradley
