Meet our Nutritional Consultant...

Dr. Eleanor Kellon
of Equine Nutritional Solutions, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, is one of the few experts in the field of applications of nutraceuticals for horses. She is an authority in the field of equine nutrition as well as matters concerning performance horses. She is also a veterinary editor for the Horse Journal and John Lyons Perfect Horse magazines.  An established best-selling author, Dr. Kellon's  books include The Older Horse, Keeping the Older Horse Young, Equine Drugs and Vaccines, Equine Supplements and Nutraceuticals and Dr. Kellon's Guide to First Aid for Horses. As co-owner and moderator of the Yahoo Equine Cushings and Insulin Resistance list, a group that has over 6000 members, Dr. Kellon is a most valuable resource. Her new book
Horse Journal Guide to Equine Supplements and Nutraceuticals, a compilation of her Horse Journal articles will be available in June of 2008.

In  2000, Dr. Kellon published the results of the first field trial on Chastetree Berry (Vitex Agnus Castus) for horses with Cushings syndrome. For more information, visit:

In March 2006,
Dr. Kellon was a guest speaker at the European Equine Health and Nutrition Congress in Belgium. Her presentations included "The use of Jiaogulan and Spirulina in Horses" and "Iron Status of Hyperinsulinemic/Insulin Resistant Horses".

In March 2007 the FDA removed pergolide from the market, a drug that has been very  successful in the management of Equine Cushing's disease. Dr. Kellon
spearheaded a nationwide effort to urge companies who market and distribute Pergolide to keep this drug available for veterinary use.  She was relentless in her communications with the FDA until they announced on May 11 that they would allow bulk pergolide to be used in compounding pergolide for use in horses.

Dr. Kellon is now offering online equine nutritional courses which I highly recommend.
Information is available on her website.

It would take a multitude of pages to list  Dr. Kellon's accomplishments and contributions to the care and health of these beautiful and majestic creatures.
Needles to say, I consider myself very fortunate to have Dr. Eleanor Kellon as my equine nutritional consultant/adviser.
