FrontPage magazine.com:
"Unbelievably in the 21st Century, the French have never installed air-conditioning, which was invented in 1902, in their hospitals, nursing homes or retirement homes. Equally mind-boggling, those institutions catering to the fragile and very elderly are not even equipped to make ice. "
"Prime Minister Raffarin, along with many French doctors, weighed in by blaming the 35-hour working week, introduced by the Socialists, for creating chronic staff shortages as the crisis unfolded. Certainly, the 35 hour week has plenty to answer for, including a tanking economy, but this entire government appears to be in denial. You will note that every man jack of them is missing the point: No air-conditioning. Not even any ice. Ten thousand four hundred old people died because they couldn’t lower their body temperatures."
"Meanwhile, the death toll in Guantanamo Bay, which the French are in the habit of condemning with dainty disgust as barbaric, sweltering, fetid and inhuman, remains remarkably stable: None."
Liberals assail Bush pick for federal court in D.C. - The Washington Times: Nation/Politics:
"Two influential liberal interest groups yesterday said it would be 'disastrous' if the Senate approved a black female judge from California who President Bush nominated in July to serve on the federal circuit court of appeals here in Washington."

Just more evidence that Liberals and Democrats hate anyone who disagrees with them. Just more evidence that when Liberals and Democrats talk about "diversity" they don't really mean "diversity". They only want everyone to think the same way, their way. The Liberals and Democrats have immorally filibustered against every judicial nominee because the last kind of judge they want on a federal bench is one that looks at the Constitution and makes a ruling based on the Constitution. Liberals and Democrats only want judges to make rulings based on the Communist Manifesto -- to destroy individual liberties, individual property rights, and individual economic rights.
Fool.com: The Great Job Destroyer [Commentary]:
"Thousands of families have had their livelihoods thrown into turmoil by the destruction that is improved efficiency. It should be obvious our elected leaders must do something to turn back the tide, make industry less efficient and bring those jobs back."

WorldNetDaily: 22 things about the Bible that drives the left crazy
Dave Barry: Living in a state of disrepair: California:
"I came out here because I've been reading disturbing reports that my state, Florida, is about to lose the coveted title of ''The Doofus State,'' which we Floridians worked so hard to win following the 2000 presidential election by not being able to figure out whom we voted for. "
Nascar: Engine of Change:
"In an age of watered-down appeals to the lowest common denominator and concern about offending tender sensibilities, Nascar revels in its throwback authenticity. Races showcase muscular patriotism, grease-filled masculinity, fast cars and the unembarrassed invocation of God. All that goes down very well in the Bible Belt, where Nascar has its roots. But the remarkable growth of the sport has taken Nascar to places that squirm when too many American flags are flown. Even the green-minded Pacific Northwest is a strong television market for this gas-guzzling spectacle."
Michelle Malkin: The looters liberals ignore: Part II:
"Investigators from the FBI and Miami-Dade's Public Corruption Task Force raided the powerful United Teachers of Dade headquarters at the end of April. In July, they raided the Tallahassee home of union President Pat Tornillo.
This week, Tornillo -- the Ken Lay of the Left -- finally confessed to massive looting of teachers' union dues. "

And you wonder why the government schools are in bad shape and the kids are graduating without basic skills to succeed in the real world (not to be confused with "The Real World" on MTV).

OpinionJournal - Outside the Box: "Have you ever fallen off a cliff? If you are younger than 40, you are about to. Social Security is fast approaching a financial precipice that will plunge benefits and smash retirement plans for millions of Americans.
The graph below is a part of the General Accounting Office's July 'Social Security Reform' study. Beginning in 2038 Social Security won't be able to pay the benefits promised to retirees without dipping into general federal revenue or borrowing an inordinate sum. Unless more money is found, Social Security checks will drop by 27%."

Clark Howard Show Notes Wednesday, August 13
"If a customer calls to ask what a company’s business hours are, that person is considered “fair game” under the law. Under the “Do Not Call” system, that business will have permission to call you for the next three months. Basically, any customer related call to a business creates a 90-day exemption from the “Do Not Call” list. "

The savings future of savings bonds is paperless: "
A dinosaur of the investment world has met its Ice Age. The old-fashioned savings bond, available in paper form since 1935, will soon be available only in an electronic form online. Don't rush. 'Soon' means two, maybe three years. No one really knows just how long it will take.
Instead of visiting your friendly corner bank or credit union to buy a savings bond, you'll need a computer, Internet access and a bank account. You'll have to go online to set up an account with Treasury Direct, the U.S. Treasury's Bureau of Public Debt site for electronic EE, I bonds and marketable securities such as Treasury bills and notes."

Microsoft patch process called into question - Computerworld
Google Toolbar
I've been using this for a while now (see blog below) and like it very much. The Blogger button is nice. The pop-up blocker is pretty effective. It is on by default, but if you click the button while on a site, it will allow pop-ups from that domain. If you want to allow a pop-up w/o allowing for all pop-ups for that domain, if you press CTRL when you click the link, it will override the blocker. The Google search box is handy too! Haven't tried the form fill feature yet. Don't think I'd trust it with my credit card number though.

ConsumerReports.org - Computer software, how to avoid trouble 9/03
Helpful advice on how to avoid computer problems and what to do when problems occur.
Online gamblers sue their creditors | CNET News.com: "A California couple that lost more than $100,000 gambling online is suing a host of credit card companies and banks, claiming the businesses shouldn't have processed the wagers.
Lisa and Andrew Harding racked up tens of thousands of dollars in online gambling debt during 2002 and 2003, prompting a lawsuit from credit card company Retailers National Bank, which accused Lisa Harding of failing to pay the bills."
So, it is the credit card's company's fault you are stupid or at best have a serious uncontrollable gambling addition?
WorldNetDaily: U.S. fines 'human shield': "A letter from the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control greeted Fippinger's May 4 return from Iraq. It warned she could be jailed for 12 years and fined $1 million if she worked for Saddam Hussein's regime while in Baghdad and asked her to explain her whereabouts, activities and expenses.
The letter accused Fippinger of breaking the law by traveling to Iraq in violation of U.S. sanctions that prohibited American citizens from engaging in 'virtually all direct or indirect commercial, financial or trade transactions with Iraq.' "
