from Section I-b ON BLESSINGS AND PSALMS: |
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an
instrument of ten strings.
Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in
truth.
He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the
goodness of the LORD.
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host
of them by the breath of his mouth.
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth
up the depth in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the
world stand in awe of him.
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh
the devices of the people of none effect.
The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his
heart to all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom
he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.
From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the
inhabitants of the earth.
He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty
man is not delivered by much strength.
An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver
any by his great strength.
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him,
upon them that hope in his mercy;
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his
holy name.
Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear
thereof, and be glad.
O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my
fears.
They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were
not ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of
all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him,
and delivereth them.
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that
trusteth in him.
O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them
that fear him.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek
the LORD shall not want any good thing.
Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear
of the LORD.
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that
he may see good?
Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open
unto their cry.
The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the
remembrance of them from the earth.
The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out
of all their troubles.
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart;
and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD
delivereth him out of them all.
He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous
shall be desolate.
The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them
that trust in him shall be desolate.
The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that
have pleasure therein.
His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth
for ever.
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is
gracious and full of compassion.
He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be
mindful of his covenant.
He hath showed his people the power of his works, that he may give
them the heritage of the heathen.
The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his
commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and
uprightness.
He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant
for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good
understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise
endureth for ever.
I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me,
and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay,
and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God:
many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth
not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done,
and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up
in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are
more than can be numbered.
Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou
opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of
me,
I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo,
I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart;
I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation:
I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth
from the great congregation.
Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD:
let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities
have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up;
they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart
faileth me.
Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.
Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after
my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to
shame that wish me evil.
Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me,
Aha, aha.
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee:
let such as love thy salvation say continually,
The LORD be magnified.
But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me:
thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. (Psa 5:2 KJV)
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. (Psa 5:3 KJV)
For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. (Psa 5:4 KJV)
The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. (Psa 5:5 KJV)
Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. (Psa 5:6 KJV)
But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. (Psa 5:7 KJV)
Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. (Psa 5:8 KJV)
For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. (Psa 5:9 KJV)
Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee. (Psa 5:10 KJV)
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. (Psa 5:11 KJV)
For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. (Psa 5:12 KJV)
