NBA Hoop IT Up

June 2 2002,
NBA Hoop It Up 3 on 3 basketball was another smashing success. Over 375 teams participated in the great DC annual event. The venue this year was the parking lot at RFK Stadium. The parking was free the Gatorade flowed generously and the food was excellent. As in pervious years each team member received a NBA HIU colorful T-shirt and a bag a free promotional items. This is the 6th Hoop-It-UP that DC hoops.org has attended and this DC event was one of the best. A number of the groups on Saturday had most of the games decided by 2 points in games to 16. The teams are divided by age, experience and height with the goal to have the teams as evenly matched as possible. In most cases that's how it works out. This pure non-stop basketball competition at it finest.
Teams were various the ages from 10 to 50 years old for males and females.

DC Hoops.org spoke with Bill Kane, the event Director. Bill, said that the event was a big success, the weather was perfect and the venue was wonderful. Bill, his paid staff and volunteers deserve lots of credit for running a fun weekend of basketball. DC Hoops.org asked Bill why there were only 375 teams for the DC event when Norfolk had over 700 teams and Baltimore has close to 600 teams? Bill indicated that Washington, DC has so many competing activities that it is more difficult to get people to block out the first weekend in June. With more exposure on DC Hoops.org perhaps the DC event can top 500 teams next year. Look forward to pictures from DC NBA Hoop-it-up and information about the Camden Yards coming up in August 2002.
