Is it me, or does it seem a little weird for a little amulet that looks like a Power Sphere, go to a large size sphere just by going through a time portal?

Shurikenger's identity is unknown till the end of the series. You never see his face because he is always morphed or disguising himself as a former Sentai Allumni.
