Ammunition Canisters
Military surplus ammunition canisters provide an
inexpensive solution to storing unsealed ammunition in a humid
environment. I have found the 7.62x51mm NATO canister to be good for
holding ammunition. The below canister is able to hold 24 20-round Wolf
7.62x39mm ammunition packages.
The 7.62 NATO canister is large enough to hold 40-round AK-47
magazines.
This makes it a versatile container for ammunition or magazines.
The .50 cal canister is larger than the 7.62 NATO
canister in all dimensions. Therefore, in addition to holding
ammunition and magazines, I have found the .50 cal canister to be good
for miscellaneous items (ear protector, stripped AK parts, cleaning
equipment, etc.).
Kobra EKP-1S-03M
The Kobra EKP-1S-03M is a collimator red dot sight. A
red dot is best described elsewhere, but the basic idea is the same as
a laser sight--where you see the "red dot" is where the shot goes. What
I like the best is that it works with both eyes open. When I close one
eye to aim with iron sights my vision becomes blurry rather quickly.
The Kobra eliminates that need. It's purpose is for quicker target
aquisition and a wider field of view for the user. The Kobra in
particular is produced for Russian Special Forces and this model
specifically was designed to be used in harsh environments. It also
requires the use of 2 "AA" batteries instead of a specialized camera
battery. This is good for those of us that don't have government funded
supplies. The integrated mount is designed specifically to attach to
the "standard" AK sight rail. This mount system is supposed to be good
enough to maintain zero after removal. The mount does seem to be quite
firm. The most difficult part of this collimator is actually zeroing
it. I found this to be particularly difficult. What makes it bad is the
way the retainer nuts tighten down on the adjustment dials. Turning the
alignment screws and then tightening the retainer nuts will move the alignment screws.
Other than that, I found this to be a good investment and well designed.
