Well here it is ...
but these pictures don't do it justice. The fretboard is rosewood with pearl/pearloid inlays. The binding is of a so-so quality, but is not coming away from the body anywhere. All the parts appear to be original. The pickguard is made of molded, rather than shaped, plastic. It matches the design of a similar Harmony archtop I saw on E-bay, so I 'm sured that it is the original. The tailpiece is as solid and heavy as it looks. The bridge is rose-wood, with a plastic inlay saddle for the strings. ( I don't know how well this shows in the picture) There are a few scratches, dings, etc..., but over all it's in great shape. It sounds beautiful, as does the Kay archtop, only this is slightly brighter in tone. It does have a nice natural reverb to it though. It plays easily with the D'Addario Flat Wounds I restrung it with. Which brings me to the tuning machines...they are not of a very good quality and are somewhat difficult to adjust. Grover makes Vintage Sta-Tite's, an open back tuning machine, with 'Butterbean' shaped buttons, which I intend to replace these with in the near future. Eldely Music is the only ones who carry them, that I've been able to find. I'll be adding pictures of the Kay after making some adjust-ments to it. I'll be keeping it as well. They both have their individual charms. Thanks for all your support. |
