Silver? Gold? What will you do?

Two Cadettes from Ohio converted an empty Adirondack shelter into a nature learning center.
They painted the walls, created displays about recycling, and nature flip cards for animal and tree identification.

A Brooklyn Cadette brought 815 pounds of school supplies on a family pilgrimage to Dakar.

You've completed steps 1-2-3 and are working on step 4, the Silver or Gold 4Bs Challenge. You've set and completed your personal goals, you've researched your neighborhood through the library, internet, newspapers and discussions. But there's already lots of food drives and winter coat collections around town. The local shelter and Ronald McDonald House have intermittent needs and no storage space. What will you do? Dig deeper. Go to GS Central > GS Highest Awards > choose Silver or Gold > on the right you'll see a pdf you can download "From Good to Great" with suggestions on how to turn a "Good" project into a "Great" project.

Here's some ideas to go from a basic need to the starting point of your project (this is a "Work In Progress")

Physiological Needs:

Food > Hunger > Nutrition > Child, Adult, Elderly > Pets > Wild Animals > Organic foods > Super Foods

Thirst > Tap Water > Bottled Water > How Safe is Your Bottled Water? > How Many Bottles End Up in the Landfill?

Safety and Security:

Stability > Home > Home Improvements > Home Safety> Shelters > Nursing Home > Animal Shelters (dog houses/pounds/bird feeders and houses/natural landscapes) > Affordable Housing

Belonging and Love:

Affiliation > Family > Club (book, walking, music, etc) > School

Acceptance > Teambuilding > Campaign for Real Beauty

Esteem:

Achievement > Homework Club > Can do projects > Literacy

Recognition > Art Show > Publicity

Cognitive:

Knowledge & Understanding> Homework Club > Science Workshops

Aesthetic:

Order > Get Your Desk/Room/Kitchen/Schoolwork Organized Workshops> Wardrobe

Beauty > Arts > Nature > Health > Dress for Success

Self-Actualization:

Realization of Potential > Education > Activism > Public Speaking > What are you interested in? What is your family interested in? > Can you involve troop/family/community members in your project beyond being your advisor?

Based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
(though for our purposes, I've inverted the pyramid)
