Old Fair Grounds

At the turn of the 19th Century, the Kansas State Fair Grounds were located south of Levy (now Mt. Vernon) along the Arkansas River and at the end of the streetcar line. The Wichita Jobbers played here until 1912 when a baseball field was established on Ackermann's Island just north of the Douglas Avenue Bridge.

According to the book, Wichita Century, "In September of 1894 there were 220 horses entered in the Kansas State Fair races and in 1896 there were 100 race horses wintered at the Kansas State Fair Grounds."
