South Central Wichita
Lincoln Park

The three acres of land for Lincoln Park were purchased for $256 from George and Eunice Pratt on October 4, 1900, making the park a century old.  It was at first named Pratt Park.

In 1909, Engine House No. 6 was built on the northwest corner of the park. A bandstand was built in the center of the park and used for performances by the South Side Booster Band. It was surrounded in part by a fishpond and many flower beds of cannas.

In the 1930s, the bandstand was demolished and the swimming pool and bath house were constructed as a WPA project.

The pool was closed in 1998 and a water activity with 17 fountains to replace the  swimming pool was dedicated in April 2001. The bathhouse has been  renovated as public restrooms.  Period benches and lighting and new play equipment have been installed making the park a popular and relaxing spot.

The park connects with the Arkansas River Trail by means of the Bayley Parkway.
