Practical to the point of brutality
and seemingly heartless, hints of humanity creep through his inscrutable
exterior and prove that Michael is a classic enigma. Michael rarely
reveals what he is thinking, schooling his face into an emotionless mask
so often that others have noticed and commented. Yet, when he is
affected by some great personal upheaval, such as the loss of his son,
the resultant emotional turmoil reaches heights only the severely repressed
find.
Michael clearly loves Nikita, but is often forced to perform actions that she finds reprehensible, such as his Section-ordered marriage to the daughter of a terrorist. Despite Nikita's quest to understand him, Michael remains a mystery in many ways. Perhaps he is in league with Oversight to take over Section One. Perhaps he wants to escape. Or maybe he just wants to keep Nikita alive. Whatever hides within his heart, it seems clear that he always has his own agenda -- which may or may not coincide with Section One's. |
