Shenandoah Publishing House Postcards

Basic Information

Most SPH Postcards contain a photograph of historical significance with a short historical paragraph on the front of the postcard.  Note the use of the word "most."  Like almost everything in life, there are general rules and exceptions to those rules.  SPH Postcards are no different.

SPH Postcards are about historical sites or events in the Shenandoah Valley between Winchester and Staunton, Virginia, and adjacent areas in West Virginia and Maryland.  A few postcards exist for Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and North Carolina, but these postcards lack the historical significance of typical SPH Postcards.

Most, but not all, SPH Postcards have these distinguishing characteristics:

Exceptions to these basic characteristics are identified on other pages of this web site.  Many of the images on this site are reduced in size so that they will fit a printed page.  If your mouse pointer changes to a hand when your cursor is over an image, you can click on that image to obtain a "full-size" version which in most cases will be clearer, ie. cross-hatching should disappear.
