Shenandoah Publishing House Postcards

Postcard Variations

Middleburg, Virginia postcards appear to have been sold by Bradfield's Drug Store.   You should be aware that most of these postcards have the title "Greetings from Middleburg, Virginia".  In most cases, there is a hyphen followed by the name of a building or scene that appears on the postcard.  Two of Bradfield's postcards, numbers 248 and 265, have the same caption.  Postcard number 248 contains a street scene with a car in the middle of the street.  Postcard number 265 has a picture of a fox hunt.

SPH Postcards typically have the historical paragraph below the picture.  However, for some postcards it was best to have this information beside the picture as seen below for postcard number 237.

There are three known variations of postcard number 307.  One of these three does not in any way look like a SPH postcard.  It is not a white border postcard.   See the pictures below for the front and back of this postcard.

Front of postcard 307 (index number 307s1)

Back of postcard 307 (index number 307s1).  Another feature that is seen on the back of this postcard is a brief historical note.  This postcard and several others have the historical note on the back.  Presumably, the picture on the front of the card left no room for this information.  Unfortunately, if you intended to mail such a postcard you'd have very little room for your message.
