Welcome to the online home for Prado
Racing.
My name is Steve Prado. We are based out of
and live in Rudy, Arkansas.
This web page is our attempt to showcase my
1968 Nova racecar and its exploits at the racetrack. A 460 cubic inch big block
Chevy engine powers the car. It uses a powerglide 2-speed transmission. Uses a
9 inch ford rear end with Strange axles.
My driver is my son, Brian (Dough) Prado.
Please be aware we are looking for
associate sponsors who could use our special talents to further their business.
I was an operating partner of a successful business for the last four years. I
know what it takes to get your message out to customers.

Here is a link to Brian’s first weekend at
the track.

As you can see he was having some problems
launching. But we had a lot of fun! And that’s what matters.

Brian and I were able to fix the jumping to
the right with a little help from an online friend. Our next weekend was very successful
and we plan on racing in the Super Pro class next time we go to the track.

Please do not notice the red light in the
left hand picture. He just left a little early.
No pictures from the next trip to track.
Brian dialed in at a 6.60 and ran a 6.58.
We did not buy back in as we were having
charging problems.
Only thing is Brian was way off the gas at
the end and still broke out.
We have the charging problem fixed we
believe and will go to track next weekend the 6th of Sept.
Did not make it to the track on the 6th,
but are still planning on going the 13th.
Went the 13th but only got one
run before getting rained out.
Next try the Oct 4th.
We did all right Oct 4th.
Even raced. No round wins yet, but hope to
have one soon.
We have put the car up for the year so it
will be next year before racing again.
If you see us at the races please come up
and introduce yourself.
Our best time and speed this year were
6.5225 and 106.36.Best 60 ft time is 1.4284
That computes to a 10.29 at 131.89 in the
quarter mile.
Assuming 10% drive train loss that is 480
to 510 flywheel HP and 432 to 459 rear wheel HP.
Our goal was 6.40’s so we have a ways to
go. I would like to go at least 6.39 so we can do some index racing.
Not bad for our first year.
We want to thank Macks Auto Service Center
for the help with the batteries.
Thanks to Jesse Fenwick for the help (and I
mean LOTS of help).
TJ and Carl at TJ’s Auto Repair for the
help with the trailer and truck.
Also my wife and Brian’s mother, Shirley,
for putting up with us! She is a saint!
Ok we went 4/4/2009. Ran quicker than we
had ever run with a 6.51 @ 106.16with a 60 ft of 1.4584. We are getting so
close to
our
target times in the 6.40’s. We keep trying new stuff and I am sure we will be
there in the next couple of trips. Part of the
Problem might be we are using year old
tires. They might be a little less sticky then we would like, but we want to
wear
them out before changing. They have quite a
bit of life left. Of course if someone wants to sponsor us a set…
Our next planned outing is May 9th.
Come watch us at Woods Bros Raceway in Sallisaw, OK.
OK as you can see we did not make it back
until June 20th. There was rain most of the months of May.
On the weeks before we had installed a new
delay box (Digital Delay Mega 450) and were testing it out trying to figure
It out. Got more buttons than a space
shuttle. Also added the throttle stop back in so we can do some index racing in
H/R and S/ST.
We were going to enter the Sooner Nationals,
but were unable to make it so the next weekend was the 20th.
The track was awful so we were only able to
run a 6.7? But this was good enough to get a runner-up in Super Pro for Brian.
Also he ran the 6.50 index class and was
able to get a runner-up there also. His winning his first round of competition
was our big deal. That makes all the
difference in the world. Driving the car is fun, but winning is REALLY FUN!
Ok Guys and Gals.
Our hope is to be at the CDRA race Aug 29th
and 30th. We will be running Super Pro.
If you happen to be there be sure to come
by and say Hi!
Wow!
What a weekend! Only rain was a few
sprinkles Sunday morning. My lips are so dry and cracked they will bleed from
any smile!
Brian went with a mission and ran his best
run of all time. 6.5029. For some
reason everyone was going very fast.
Brian lost in the third round both days.
First day racing he races M Candy in rd 1
and loses. Buys back and wins rd 2. Loses in rd 3 to B Marrs.
Final race of the night has M Candy and B
Marrs with Candy winning.
Second day Brian lose in rd 1 to T Woods.
Buys back and wins rd 2. Lost in rd 3 to G Watts.
G Watts and T Woods meet in the semis and
Watts wins. Then go on to win the final.
Everyone is going to want to race Brian so
they can get in the money!
Brians lights were great. He had a .052, .005, and a .015 on Saturday.
Sundays lights were -0197, .006, and a
.032.

Found this picture online and the guy said
I could use it.
Picture is from Saturday. Makes you feel good
when someone takes the time to take a picture of your junk.
We
had a blast and saw lots of nice people and very nice cars.
Ok guys and gals.
We raced at the 5000 to win No/E race at
Sallisaw on 10/10/09.
We did well. Knocked a few digits off the
old timer and we made it to the 3rd round again.
Ran a 6.42 at 107. We keep getting faster
and faster.
Next race we plan on attending is the big
CDRA finals race in Tulsa. It is a 3 day race.
We did make it to the Tulsa race. Did not
get into the big gamblers race on Friday night, but
Ran some test and tune runs and knocked
some more off our best time. Now it is down to 6.4170.
On Saturday we did not do well in the timed
run. Brian got distracted and cut an awful light.
Sunday we made it to the 3rd round. I see a pattern emerging here!
This is our last race for 2009. I believe
we did real well. Wish we had more money to chase points,
But we are learning more every time we go.
See you next year.
It has been a few months since we raced so we thought
we would try and go to the Centerville New Years Bracket Bash.
Boy are we glad we did! Brian was on a mission. He made it to the quarterfinals of the race. (Semi finals of S/P as it was a combo race.)
Brian won his first money. He made $75 but
also got a green sticker that said “Money Winner”. He is more proud of that
than
Anything. Also we had bought some better
tires from a fellow racer. They were not used up and still were soft. What a
difference they
Made. Our first run off the trailer was a
6.33 at 108. That’s much faster than we had ever been before. Our best time for
the
Day was a 6.2786 at 109.86. We had been
running 3 year old tires until then. Amazing what a set of fresh tires will do.
We do not plan on racing again till March.
See you then!
I will add to this page as time allows!
Thank you for visiting!
