| THE SETTING... |
|   |
| The SCC Championship was held in the Dr. Seuss Memorial Park, at the Quadrangle,
surrounded by museums. The contestants faced off under a large white tent.
The first day was sunny and warm, but the second day was filled with heavy downpours.
Chief Tournament Director and International Master, Mikhail Shur,
provided a structure influenced by his experiences in Europe.
It consisted of the cumulative scoring system, along with blitz games used as a
tiebreaker! Determination of the SCC Champion involved a three-way tie! |

| THE VICTORS... |
|   |
| In the Under 1400 Section, Malachi Davis and Colin Wheeler tied with 2 points.
At the end, however, Malachi Davis was left standing in first place after winning
the larger portion of the blitz tiebreaker games. |
|   |
| In the 1400-1800 Section, Joseph Lessard and Tim Dannay ended up even after
their blitz tiebreaker games, and a coin toss was used to determine the winner.
Tim Dannay called it in the air, but unfortunately for him the victory went to
Joseph Lessard! |
|   |
| The Above 1800 Section ended dramatically: Larry Williams, Robert Campbell,
and Sean Tobin each finished with 4 points! This meant a three-way tiebreaker
using blitz games; at the end of six blitz games (2 games for each pair,
alternating colors) there was still a three-way tie! Because it is impossible to
use a coin toss for a three-way tie, Chief Tournament Director Mikhail Shur turned
to the computer for the final results. Larry Williams ended up as the champion. |
