"The pile-up in which four drivers were hauled to the hospital,
involved seven cars. They tangled on the curve south of the grandstand
in full view of the several thousand fans, some of which shrieked with
apprehension. All but one driver was able to climb out of the
wreckage. Bud Webster, Winfield, was pinned in his car and had to be
helped out. His arm was injured a little. Other drivers involved
were Jim McAmis, Max Ritter, Clyde |

It all started when a 2-door Plymouth Mayflower spun out in turn one and was
struck by Edd Sneary's #0
Ford driven by Max Ritter, of Waynoka, Oklahoma. Ritter's car flipped
high into the air and several other cars were unable to escape the malay. Four drivers were injured including
Bud Webster, who suffered a broken arm; and Max Ritter, who received a cut
above one ear. Ritter retired from driving race cars after this
accident.

Above, you can see Edd Sneary's #0 Ford coupe back and just to the right of center in the picture. Some men behind the Sneary car appear to be looking down at the ground. The one in the light colored shirt at right with his arms folded is Lyle Sneary and they were looking at an injured Max Ritter who was sitting there on the ground. |
