**The Whippet Special was forced from the remainder of the program by a cracked gas tank received in this race. The Whippet had been brought here with a fast reputation and the fans regretted to see it go to the pits.
***Jimmy Martin’s car was forced to quit the race when the gas line broke and the spilling gasoline caught fire on the car. The blaze was quickly extinguished with no damage to the car. Mechanic George Williams suffered a burned hand while putting out the fire. The accident happened on the east straightaway opposite the stands on the west side of the speedway. Fred Gould, Arkansas City insurance man, was the first to go to Williams’ aid with a fire extinguisher.

This developed into a private struggle between Fuller and Taylor. Taylor took the lead and defended it for five laps against the speedy Arkansas City Indian. Time and again, the two roared around the turns with dirt flying and wheels so close that the large crowd gasped for fear the two cars would lock. Fuller finally found an opening when the two sailed around the curve leading into the home straightaway, and, on the next turn, cut ahead of Taylor to take the lead. Fuller won but Taylor flashed past right on his heels.
*Newspaper accounts are unclear as to whether there were more than two starters in this race.
**Andrew S. “Cokey” Fuller (1905-1932) was actually a co-owner of this car with Joe Hutchinson.
***Three weeks after this race at Arkansas City, KS, an “Art Hutchins, of Tulsa, OK” drove his OHC Laurel Ford to victory in the feature race at nearby Winfield, KS. Most likely, these men were both the same person.
Total Purse: A little over $1,000 with $350 of that won by Andrew “Cokey” Fuller.
