and pursue the creation and my personal internal outlets in the mediums
of sketching, painting in oils, ceramics, interior decorat
ing, computer graphics (all pictures,
icons and banners in this site
are my sole creations) and
especially
(at least more recently) in the art of painted stained glass.
"Painted" stained glass is
very different from the old world tradition
of painting glass and then firing the glass in a high temperature kiln
as you see in most churches throughout the world and throughout
time. One day I fully plan to have my own kilns to be able to
pursue this art form, but for now, I am using another medium to get the
same look and appeal of fired stained glass in a fraction of the time
it would normally take. You will notice several photogoraphs of
the most visibal window i nour home with I did specically for Dand and
myself as well as our home I the idea spawned from the fac tthat
when my cat, Rizzie, was alive, she as very much the center of personal
protection for me. She was absolutely my familiar in life and
always remained vigilant in ever effort to protect me direclty and in
every way she possibly could to protect anytihing whch she fully
understood were engrained people, items and living space which as so
vital to me. When the idea was decided to dominate the actual hub
of our home (the living room) and also givien light that the large
lining room window was, in fact , the center of what and who comes into
our home daily. The loss of Rizzie was a very hard blow to me as
she was fully in my life for every single twist and turn which happens
on a regular basis in anyone's life in general and she never strayed in
the slightest on making certain I was safe and on many occasions,
risked her life without a second thought in order to protect me.
The widow itself also serves another huge aspect of our I(my and
David's) complete dedication on making our home our actual haven and
retreat to remain in when we wanted to make certain we never wanted the
ills and negativity o f the every day life in our community
dwellings. David practices a form of Wicca is is a powerful
believer in creating "wards" to prevent negatiive energy intering out
home from outside sources. This particular creation is a very
copletx design and done in methods wich intentionlaly were construcgted
in order to serve as a power "ward" for our home to assist in
preventing negativity from tehe people and world arond us on any given
day. David and I have worked extensively hard to esttablish wards
againt negativity not only in every door or opening in our home and we
have truly summed up very powerful representations to ward off evill
and
negativy from anyone knockning Some of these photographs
are also close up sections of much larger works in order to give you
the levels of detail I try to bring to my creations.

glass techniques in our own home to bring the softer glows of natural
light and the feeling of warmth and welcome into the general atmosphere
of our home to help make visitors feel more welcome and
relaxed.
I employ several different techniques to create the overall desired
effect with the glass to achieve the look that is necessary for the
particular room in my own home or to
the style and tastes of the client
who has hired me to create a unique work for them. Painting
stained glass allows you to achieve a much faster result than the more
traditional styles from the classic "cathedral stained glass" look from
the masters of the past and many masters of the
present who employ
actual "fired" or "kiln heated" glass artworks (mostly found in
churches or other places of worship or congregation). In
"painting" glass, you can achieve the same style and look of actual
kiln fired glass in a fraction of the time (a good or knowledge artisan
can and does achieve this level of quality in this medium regardless of
what some people may say). However, you should also be aware
there are limits to this medium, mainly in the fact that the
maintenance of painted stained glass is subject to quick damage if
exposed to excessive heat or moisture buildup (humidity) if not sealed
correctly. As with any artistic creation, proper care and
maintenance shoudl always be exercised in order to keep your artwork in
pristine condition and I will also give you a few tips within this page
to help you understand the correct cleaning techniques you should use
on your painted stained glass to always have the rich luster the
creation was born with.
A client advises me
on what specifically
they are wanting as
far as a finished product. With this information, I
will sketch several patterns for the client
to review and determine
which pattern closest
meets their needs. Upon the client's approval of a specific pattern, I
then am able to actual
begin creating the product and advise the client
on how much time will be needed to complete the project. The length of
time to complete a project will vary and is based solely on the
estimated time I will need to complete the
project. Actual windows and
doors will naturally take the most time and the turn around for these
projects is generally within two to four weeks. Smaller items such as
vases, interior lighting fixtures, etc, can most likely be completed
within a week to ten days although I do reserve the right to advise if
a project such as this might need a longer
period of time to complete.
There are no limits as to the esigns I can create in order to meet the
desired results. For example, in the past I have created projects in
the styles of classic cathedral glass, religious stained glass, natural
scenery, animal scenes and both male and female nudes. Stained
glass windows are also a very touching way to create works of art to
memorialize a dear loved one who has preceded us in death and of whom
you want to have a lasting and meaningful memory of. Creating
works involving portraits of individual persons
or pets will require a
professional photograph (or a very good quality photograph from a
personal camera) are absolutely able to be completed and in most cases,
it will be a very "real" representation.
Although this may cost
the client more than works which are strictly nature or geometric
scenes, the cost will vary according to complexity. Black and
white photographs can be done very effectively in color on the glass
itself very well. Further discussion
may be required with the client in these specific events to insure hair
, eye and skin tone of the actual person or animal.
The cost to the
client for the completed project will also be determined before the
project begins. Actual cost will vary depending on the type of project
desired. All works are done to the client's satis
faction and in
the event of accidents or damage, repair work can always be done by
myself for a minimal cost and if the damage or touch up is m
inor, may
not be charged at all. Discounts are
also given to those who may
need several projects done and I will also always welcome client drop
ins to my home so they can monitor the work
during its
progression. I am a firm believer in
keeping my clients happy with the work they ask
me to do
All works completed
are assured to be unique as I create my own
patterns before color application is even begun. As you can see
from the examples immediately left and right, there are several stages
which the project must go through, beginning with the specific patterns
desired (in this case a childhood portrait circled with wildlife
scenes) applied directly to the glass all the way through the finished
painted glass process. I can provide a
client with several detailed sketches when they provide me with general
ideas or directions which they would like to see in the finished
product. These pattern proposals can even be altered in the
presence of my client in order for me to work directly with them to
make sure they are completed satisfied with the selection they
make. Only upon their approval of the proposed pattern will the
actual process begin to bring life to the actual artwork. Even
after the painting process begins, if the client changes their mind, it
is very possible to alter the direction of the color process to alter
the overall design if they contact me early enough in the process to
make sure the overall effect will not be damaged by making last minute
changes. If, however, the client contacts me after the half-way
point of the color creation and insists on changes, a minimal charge
may need to be negotiated again in order to begin the process from step
one. Again, I go long distances of compromise to work with my
clients. It is the client who is requesting the work. It is
the client I share my artistic gift with and I want to achieve a
complete and absolute comfort and sense of satisfaction with my
clients. Afterall, my artwork will become a part of my clients
home or a part of the person's home my client
has commissioned for me
to create an heirloom quality gift. Positive energy is something
I also strive to maintain in the works I provide and this will give my
clients a full sense of this positive energy and will also achieve
total peace and serenity with this addition to thier home. No two
people are ever the same person and every person in this world is
unique--therefore, the uniqueness of what I provide to my clients is
something I strive to capture in the finished artwork as well.
The cost of the
finished product for
the client does
not include the purchase of larger items such as actual interior
windows, glass cabinet doors (kitchen/bathroom/bedroom/display
furniture), and glass closet doors or
storm doors. Occasionally if the client is local to the Northwest
Arkansas area, and a client would like to have a window, door or
cabinets which are already installed in their ho
me
and would be
difficult to remove from the home, I may agree to travel to the clients
home or office and work on the project. It must be understood
there will be additional
cost for
mileage considerations and it must be
understood as well doing a project such as this may take a longer
timeframe than if I were able to work on the
desired project in my own
studio. Because high levels of humidity will have a devastating
effect on painted glass mediums in a relatively short period of time, I
will strongly recommend the client not ask for shower doors to be done
in this fashion. If, however, this is something the client
actually does want to go ahead and
commission, I will go ahead and meet
their needs but I will require a written statement from the client to
show they fully understand the possible
ramifications of continuing
this need. For these items the client has the choice of purchasing these items and delivering
them to my home themselves, or purchasing the
items at a local retail
center in my immediate area which I will pick up myself in order to
begin the application of the artwork on
these items. Most of my clients who chose to do this in the past
purchased through Lowes or Home Depot (although I do not specifically
limit this to the larger retail chain stores and other local building
supply centers can be discussed and most times welcomed) and provided
the receipt information to me in order for me to travel to the retail
store for me to pick up and then begin the steps to actually complete
the product. I have also worked with interior decorators who need
specific color schemes to compliment a project they are working on
themselves and welcome this opportunity.
However, getting the windows
or doors to me in order for me to work with the glass is still their
responsibility and I adhere the same practice with professional
designers or contractors as I do with individual private clientele. If
I am already in a current and large product for a client and a new
potential client contacts me to commission a work, they will be advised
the project they are requesting will be affected by the estimated
time-completion date of the project I am currently working on. Again,
this will be discussed in full with any client when I give them my
estimated on the time for completion. If, for any reason the
timeline I state to my client may exceed my original estimate (most
times when the client choses to make changes to the original agreed
upon plans), this will also be discussed further so I can explain fully
the need for additional time to complete their project. If for
any reason the extension of the timeline is due solely to something
personal on my own behalf (illness, family emergency, etc) I will
gladly offer a discount to my client as a means to continue the
positive energy which will ultimately affect the overall appeal of the
finished product.
Generally, I do not
keep a large inventory of items to make
available for random sales. Most of these products will be available
for sale through various online auction sites and artistic commission
sites found on the Internet or will be placed in local artisan
markets. I welcome the opportunity for a client to view these
items themselves if they should happen to want to see these smaller
projects for purchase for themselves or as gifts to others. I
will gladly provide the client with photographs of these items which
were not commissioned by anyone in particular but I will ask the client
to understand that if the item is currently listed on Internet mediums
for auction, the item must remain posted until it is determined if it
is actually sold online. If, however, the client finds something
I currently have for sale to the open public in the photographs and the
item is available in one of the local artisan stores, I can certainly
contact the b
usiness
where the item is currently on display and have it
removed from the shelves of the display and can then either deliver
directly to the customer or can ship to the customer's home. In
this event, the client would be responsible for the cost of
shipping. Creations which fall into
one of these described categories will be photographed and made
available for viewing on this website and
stated if this item is in an
online auction or can be found at the local selling house. If you
ever find anything I have listed on this website as for sale to anyone,
please feel free to contact me through my email link and I will contact
you back as soon as possible to insure if you actually want to buy the
item directly. I can not assure at any time if the item is housed
in a retail center because some times, when I contact the store where
the item is it may have actually already sold to another customer and I
had not been notified of this sale yet. In the even that this
happens, I would be happy to discuss doing another creation and create
something similar--but never the exact same as what was originally
inquired. In this event, it then becomes a commission type sale
specific to the client and again, proposal sketches will be completed
and given to the client for approval before the actual work can begin.
In no way do I
restrict creating works for clients to my immediate area in which I
live. Items can be shipped worldwide. If it is necessary
to ship a completed product to the client, the client will be
responsible for the full amount of shipping
costs. Again, this will be discussed and arrangements agreed upon prior
to the
actual beginning of the project. Photographs can be obtained at each
stage of the project from start to actual completion and sent to the
client at different steps of progression so they may monitor the
enftire process for themselves. Payment will
be expected in full before
delivery and I will only accept cash, money order or cashiers check for
the exact amount of the agreed upon total
sum. In some cases, a standard deposit of 30% and must be obtained as
good faith for the
remaining balance of the project upon
completion. In this event, the deposit will also be required immediately prior to the start of the requested product.
If a client wants to pay for their commission with a personal check,
there will be a hold on the item and it will not be shipped until the
check for the payment has cleared my bank. Then and only then
will I ship the item. if the client wants to insure the item for
shipment (some commissions cost enough so that I would strongly
recommend shipping insurance,
the cost of the insurance will be
included in the overall shipping charges. At no time will
the cost of shipping and insurance be a part of the actual payment
price of the commission. These expenses are in addition to the
cost agreed upon for the artwork.
With the samples I demonstrate for
you on this page, you can see the the diversity and techniques used to
create specific looks. Possibilities are as limitless as painting
a picture on a
canvas. You can create any type of look you desire ranging from
old world "Cathedral" style stained glass depicting religious scenes as
easily as you can create a more ecclectic theme. As with any
stained glass creation, color is not only
what makes stained glass so appealing to view, it is an absolute
must. The more coloration you can get into a piece, the more
saturation the light illuminating the window (or whatever
look--especially in the case of candle globes and lanterns) will
achieve and the
almost prism effect of color dancing in the
room of the stained glass becomes even more dramatic.
Painted
stained glass also allows for a much more diversified range of projects
you can create as you can also see from the photographs provided.
This medium is not just limited to glass windows by any means.
Creating a unique art form on vases, candle globes, glass table tops
and glass lanterns are only the beginning of the many different ways
you have unique crafts in this area.
Painted
stained glass projects are not intended for outdoor use in which
the glass remains unprotected from the seasonal elements. These
works are also not advised for any glass which will be subjected to
high heat (cookware, glass serving dishes, etc), high humidity areas
such as shower doors as an example, or not intended to be used on any surface normally used
for serving food or
drink. Painted stained glass projects are
also not dishwasher safe.
This artistic form is an alternative to easily
employee in decoration which is much
cheaper to purchase from a craftsman and can quickly change the entire
atmosphere of the room in which it is done. Since this is a "non
permanent" medium (meaning if necessary or wanted, it can be removed
from the glass without damaging the glass at all or affecting the
original glass transparency), an artisan can create a
truly unique work which is much cheaper and more cost effective to the
general client and can be finished and delivered to the client in a
fraction of the time it would take to create the same work in a
kiln-fired creation. At some point in the very near future, I
have every intention of setting up my own kilns and begin creating
permanent glass work and achieving the truly "old world" craftsmanship
as only this medium can provide. But even when I begin doing
this, I will always leave the painted "non-fired" techniques open as a
possibility for my clients.
Art created
in any medium is a very personal thing for the artist or craftsman to
create. With any artwork you may purchase directly from an actual
artist (not mass produced), it is very important that you truly feel
within yourself that
the artwork you are considering to purchase or the artist you are
considering to hire to create something specifically for you is a
feeling of comfort.. Never purchase or bring into your home any
artwork which gives you even a fleeting moment of inner discomfort and
believe me when I tell you to not dismiss your initial internal feeling
of the artwork lightly. True art is not only a representation
of a physical outlet for the creator to extend a glimpse of their very
soul,
it is also a strong influence on the overall feelings, atmosphere and
energies of our home which you display this artwork in.
If
you would like to learn more about this art form or perhaps discuss
with me a project you might like for you own home or to give as a gift,
please feel free to contact me through the email link provided. I
will certainly be happy to speak with you in detail about this.
