What the...Navy AND Air Force ?
The beginning...Navy boot
camp...Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL January 1984...Company 020.
(LEFT) Here is a *very* young 20
year old Company Yeoman (YO-YO) Scott Tacoma reading his mail with the Company
Assistant Recruit Chief Petty Officer (A-RPOC) -and soon to be promoted- Louis
Church mugging for the camera =:-O
After my hair grew back, I went to
Basic Electricity and Electronics (BEEP) School and then Electronics Technician "A"
school, both right across the road at Service School Command Great Lakes, then
on to Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando (since closed). After somehow
managing to pass the 4 hour final, I went on to Nuclear Power Prototype
Training in Idaho Falls, ID (since closed too). I didn't make it through there
(a good thing in my opinion)...became a "conventional" ET... SATCOM school in Ft. Gordon, GA
in late 1986, and a 3 year assignment at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL at the Joint
Communications Support Element (JCSE). Worked with all 4 branches of the
service. Lots of TDYs (especially to Jordan, Egypt, England, Panama and West
Germany) but good duty (except for PTs!). Left in May 1990 for
NCTS Sicily SATCOM (Sigonella Naval Air Station). Decided to leave the Navy in
March of 1993. What? The Air Force uniform? Read on...
