2004 San Diego Midnight Madness

a.k.a. "the what would you do if your wife became disabled" ride

Fourth year in a row to ride Meredith in the trailer, but this year she made me change the sign, too far from her birthday. This year it said:

Say Hi to Meredith
she has MS
Pledge ME

Lots of people remembered us from previous years. This year I entered the light contest. Meredith stayed in her wheelchair until right before the ride. I got an "American Idol" microphone that you can transmit over the radio, so I said a few words about how I'm not a professional Pedicab guy, that I made the trailer for my wife in the wheelchair, and that you can pledge me for the MS-150 bike ride through my website. I guess we'll have to wait and see what kind of response that gets...

Hanging out waiting for the ride to start, the contests went pretty quickly

Team Duff - you earn that jersey at the MS-150

Sponge Bob - big fan

Beautiful outfits - and bikes

very creative - why didn't they win?

another beautiful couple, check out the ring!

Too bad our anniversary isn't in August...

gold medal winners!

Solar system? I saw this guy around harbor island, riding with the hand puppet.

first crash of the ride? or falling down drunk?
probably just stretching before the big ride...

nice jammies

The crowd mobbed the Red Bull girls, right after I got the last one...

Flames are good, but that's a John Deere bike on the right

some of the Lock Ness girls from last year

They tried to suspend the "star" between them as they rode. I saw it in the road on Harbor Drive, took a picture but it didn't come out.

Phantom tandem, on all my previous pages too. He said something about his wife making him bring the kid next year. I'm in the same boat my friend.
Stand by to meet Bobby!

You have to see FLASHLIGHT MAN to believe the power of his light. 150 watts. 24 volts. 12 lead acid batteries. It looks like a huge flashlight running the length of the bike. If I had a top 10 of midnight madness riders, this guy would be there. He was in the first ride I did in the early 90s. A mainstay of the event. He helped push us up the hills in old town last year. Lucky for me, my chain broke about half way, so by they time I got it fixed, Flashlight man was there to help up the hill again!

Poor photo, but the lights on these wheels made you dizzy looking at them.

Captain America! He won the light contest.

A pirate and his parrot. She said she was going to ride on his shoulder the whole way. Didn't get a photo of that. The had been to my 2003 website the day of this ride. Pretty awesome.

These girls sang, danced, and won the costume contest!

Full size flag sticking out the seat post of a tandem. Jester handed me cash for the MS-150 ride. Thanks again!

the train family...very cool

No helmet, no number. I think they were crashing the ride...

Frankie. THE Frankie! He makes these trailers. Business must be good, I see them everywhere now. He and his wife caught us right after Old Town. Our stereo quit on us, but his music was just like ours.

What an awesome ride!
