2001 San Diego Midnight Madness

Meredith and I rode this in 1995 and 1996.  I rode it in 1999 with my niece Meghan.  For 2001, I rented a pedicab and pulled her the whole way.
Her birthday was a few days before it and wasn't anything spectacular.  She wasn't even that impressed when I turned in the registration and brought home our rider numbers.  Saturday (while SHE was napping) I made a happy birthday sign for the back of the pedicab.  It worked like a charm.  Almost every rider said "Happy Birthday Meredith".  Each rider in a pack of 30 J.W.s added "Jesus loves you and so do I".  A couple groups sang the whole happy birthday song.  She must have said "thank you" 500 times!  I don't think the thought even occured to any of them that she has to use a wheelchair.

She had no idea the sign was there.

Not pictured is the Little Red Riding Hood, very cute.

There were a couple "Choppers" like this.

A guy.

Another guy. I didn't get a photo of the girl in a towel.

There was a whole group of "tie dies", including a baby.

Tiki Man didn't win the light contest. Real fire.

They were giving out otter pops, Meredith got one.

Mermaid was in the costume contest,
she's Neon Bike's girlfriend.

CD Man. I think he won something.

Dos Amigos.[Amigas?]
They did a little dance and won the costume competition

The bear was blowing bubbles.

Picking a winner at 3 AM

You can see the black light over her head.

The pedicab was truly awesome.

Don't scroll any further if you're easily offended!!!

NAKED MAN!

All made possible by Frankie. He MAKES the pedicab. It weighs about 100 pounds, has a 12 Volt system for the lights and a CD player (with remote). I was almost afraid we'd get pulled over by the police because I had it so loud. The ride was 20 miles plus getting to and from Frankie's place. It wasn't too difficult to pull, and I was half way up the biggest hill in Old Town when I realized there was another rider helping push from behind. Thanks again whoever you are!
