2003 San Diego Midnight Madness

Third year to ride with the trailer and "Say Happy Birthday To: Meredith" sign. Lots of people remembered us from previous years. This year we entered the light contest (and didn't win - what were they thinking!) The announcer had everyone sing happy birthday.

I'm sure the thought never occured to them that she has to use a wheelchair and I made this trailer just so she could keep doing this bike ride. Check out my other Midnight Madness pages and don't forget to pledge me in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis!

There seemed to be less participants this year, but we had lots of friends join us again. Left to right you can pick out Reina, Greg & Lisa, and Ron Bolles. I didn't get photos of Mike, Joel (the "Rock" from last year), Brian and Brent (A.K.A. Beaker). In the foreground are foreheads of Meredith and this year's guest passenger, Jackie.

Wonder womand and her Dad, superman. I thought they were and item...

a couple of hillbillys

Bride of Frankenstein, she won 4 tickets to Sea World. Had 2 little kids with her on the ride.

This is the same phantom tandem rider from last year. I guess the stick figure guy tired of riding in the back. Very tricky on the turns...I'm bummed the photo didn't come out better.

3 guys with lots of neon tubes. Not chemical glow sticks, real neon lights. Low tech approach for the wheel lights, the battery was next to the axle, so no tricky slip ring assembly.

Lock Ness Monster. They passed us right before the finish. I thought for sure they wouldn't be able to make it the whole way. I don't know why I thought they were girlscouts. Maybe it was all the green, sorry!

Poor leopard! Seats and handlebars matched.

Crazy flashing-pirate "Long Dong Silver" on the left. "It" was hanging out his pirate pants leg, good thing he dresses to the left (as in that's not his left leg there in the photo) otherwise it would have got caught in the chain!

Flashlight man! This thing is like a search light. You can light up the side of a skyscraper with it. Somebody should have notified Lindberg tower. One of many who put a hand on the back of the trailer while riding uphill.

Catwoman! The photo doesn't do her justice. She had the cateye contacts and the most realistic fang teeth I've ever seen in person. Meoooww!

Lucy and Ricky. They won a prize too.

Madonna-wannabe. Ouch! You could get an eye poked out with those things!

A regular and favorite of Midnight Madness. Meredith and Jackie got otter pops again. Greg helped them fix the wagon half way through.

Greg and Lisa at the start. Lisa's bike has bowling pin valve stem caps and martini glasses painted on the fenders.

Another regular and favorite. This couple is on my pages from the last 2 years. Mermaid was a Luna Moth this year. Neon Bike guy was "Flame" They won the grand prize, 2 tickets anywhere Alaska Airlines flys (uh, does that mean they're going to Alaska?). Well Done!

Very patriotic.

Another winning rider.
