I missed the MS 150! - Sort of -

So why do it at all?

I was deployed with the Navy from September to November, so I missed the MS-150. Some of you may have heard my plans to ride in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil the same weekend the ride was happening back here in Southern California.

Because of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, the mighty USS Nimitz didn't pull into any foreign ports during the transit from the East coast to the West.

I planned on riding during a "steel beach" picnic that was scheduled for the same weekend as the MS-150, but that was cancelled due to bad weather. To make up for it, I rode on the steel beach picnic we had while crossing the equator from South to North. I also did some extensive, 2 day, riding in Hawaii. Very scenic.

Here are some photos...

The hardest part of riding on the flight deck was dodging all the frisbees, footballs and hacky sacks.

Aloha!

These are the "bike racks" you find all over downtown Honolulu.

On the climb to Diamond Head (day one)

Too slow for the timer on the camera.

80 miles so far, but who's counting?

Signs and more signs, not much good without a map...

You see that road along the side of the mountain?

Took a while to get there.

There was a really long tunnel a few miles after this one, and the downhill on the other side of it was awesome!

Thanks again for your support!
