Treats/chews:
Please, skip the pet aisle
in the grocery store. The Pupperoni, Beggin'
strips, Milkbones, etc, etc are all complete
junk food. If you want to buy your dog a
treat from the grocery store, buy him some chicken or
steak!
Also, Greenies,
Booda velvets, edible nylabones, etc are all made with
corn by-products and/or wheat gluten and are not healthy
for your dog/puppy. Puppies DO need to chew
and adult dogs also love to chew, but there are much more
appropriate items for that purpose.
A chihuahua should
not have a problem with larger sized rawhide bones, as
they cannot break off large pieces and swallow them.
My chihuahuas love bully sticks and
sweet potato chews. Raw,
meaty bones are also excellent for cleaning teeth.
All dogs
need treats- whether for training or just to show them
you love them. Why not make those treats healthy
ones instead of loading up your pet with salt, sugar,
artificial colors, flavors, and glutens? Here are my recommendations:
Thinly
sliced
steak
or
chicken!
(Liver only in moderation due to excessive amounts of
vit. A and certain minerals)
Freeze-dried Tripe (irresistible!)
Mr
Pugsley's Organic Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
Gerber
freeze-dried apple bits
or apples with strawberries, available in the baby food
aisle.
Innova
EVO baked treats-
(For adults only, due to
excessive calcium content)
BRAVO!
Freeze-dried
meats
Wysong
Dream Treats
New
Zealand jerky style
Real Meat treats--
tiny, chewy pieces. Easy to break and perfect for
training chis.
FOR
CHEWING:
Bully
sticks!!
American
rawhide
Nylabone
petite size dental chew bones
(NOT edible- these are blue with little nubs to clean
teeth)
Sweet
potato chews-
Sam’s Yams “Bichon Fries”
