Welcome to Starsen Chihuahuas! We are a husband and wife team of Chihuahua breeder/ exhibitors located in beautiful coastal New England. Throughout the 1990's I worked as an animal care technician at the local animal shelter, a pet food salesperson and as a veterinary technician at a busy animal hospital. I have more recently worked as a professional dog groomer and have been researching canine nutrition for over a decade. I am responsible for the daily care, training, grooming, showing and breeding of the dogs. My husband assists me with socialization and playing with puppies and helps with the many costs of showing, breeding and spoiling the dogs. I think we make a great team! Health is very important to us and all of our breeding stock are tested and registered with OFA for hearts and patellas and CERF for eyes. We also choose to participate in the Canine Health Information Center registry by submitting all of our dogs' test results into their centralized data base in hopes of helping other breeders to improve the overall health of our breed. Our goal is to breed a very limited number of outstanding examples of this breed for the show ring, but we also occasionally have pets available on a spay/neuter contract. Because we breed on such a small scale, we are able to provide our puppies with extensive socialization and early training. We are also able to be very selective about the homes we place them in. Our dogs are registered with AKC- not ACA, CKC (Continental Kennel Club), APRI or other meaningless registries. We do not breed "deer type" chihuahuas or "teacups" because there is no such thing according to the AKC standard. We do not breed merle chihuahuas, and also do not purposefully breed for rare colors like blue, chocolate, lavender, etc. We just try to breed the best chihuahua we can regardless of color! I am a proud member of the The Chihuahua Club of America, the CCA's Chihuahua Health Related Issues Committee, The Classic Toy Dog Club of Western Massachusetts, The Hudson Valley Chihuahua Club and The Heart of New England Chihuahua Club. I handle outside dogs on a limited basis- dogs I have shown for others or are currently showing are listed on the Handling page.
A little about our breeding program: We acquired our first show dog and foundation bitch in December 2005. Her name is Cam's Lucille's a Ball of Starsen (aka Lucy- see My Girls). Lucy is linebred on BISS CH Cam's Buttontop Beau, ROM- a son of BISS CH Ouachitah Bravisimo, ROM. Lucy had some nice specialty placements during her show career and is known for her beautiful movement, topline, tailset, pretty head and lovely expression. February 2007-Lucy produced three champions in her first litter! All three received placements at the Chihuahua Club of America's national specialty show in Chicago 2007, under three different judges. One from the 6-9 bitch class, another from the 6-9 puppy dog sweeps and the third from the sanctioned puppy match. They have consistent outstanding breed type and temperament. We are truly lucky to have such a wonderful bitch as our foundation and are very thankful to Junko Guichon for letting us use her top producing male, Ch Guichon's Besame Mucho, ROM. We have future plans to linebreed to this beautiful boy who produced so nicely for us with our very first litter. In February 2008 we added a new addition to our foundation- a beautiful bitch from Sweet Indeed Kennels in Italy. She has the breed type and temperament that is so important to us in choosing the foundation upon which we will build our future lines. We love her huge eyes and ears and big dog attitude. Tyra is linebred on Multi CH Misty Meadows Dressed to Dance, ROM- a son of CH Dachida's Dressed to Thrill. We feel the english in her background should blend in nicely with the Dartan lines we are working with. Tyra has produced her first litter for us- two beautiful girls sired by our CH Starsen Red Bull, pictured on our nursery page. In Spring 2008 We were fortunate enough that Darwin Delaney of Dartan Chihuahuas allowed us a breeding to my all time favorite producer, Ch Dartan Grand Slam, ROM. I have admired the beautiful breed type in his get since my very beginning in Chihuahuas. Another dream come true! This breeding produced two beautiful girls that are sure to play an important role in our foundation. In Summer of 2008 we were given the opportunity to breed to another one of my favorite dogs- BISS Am/Int CH Anderson-Stonehill's Knockout. This beautiful moving dog won BOB at the CCA national specialty in 2006, and won BOV in 2007- from the veteran's class! Not only can he cover ground, but he has large eyes and ears, great show temperament, wonderful angulation and excellent all around structure. The icing on the cake is that his pedigree is extremely compatible with our Lucy's (He is a son of Ch Ouachitah Bravisimo, ROM) and we are thrilled to have 3 beautiful hopefuls out of this breeding to become another part of the solid foundation we are trying to build. Summer/Fall 2009- We are very lucky to have the opportunity to have two beautiful males visiting us bred/owned by Darwin Delaney of Dartan Chihuahuas. We have been having a blast in the ring with these boys and have some beautiful puppies out of Tommy on the ground that we have high hopes for! Tommy (Dartan Non Stop Photo Op) is a son of Am/Jp CH Bramver's Fort, World Dog Show Winner 2009 and is linebred on Ch Dartan's Still on Fire, ROM. Tommy has gorgeous sidegait, angulation, topline, tailset and ears! Fall 2009- We are also very excited to have a litter here out of Ch Stonehill-Rebound Cobalt-L ROM. The angulation, sidegait, coat and pretty head on this dog, not to mention his fabulous temperament and pedigree, make us very happy to have two pretty little hopefuls out of him. Thank you Sue! Our goal is to slowly develop our own bloodline, carefully blending the above lines together and adjusting our plans as we go along to create the best Chihuahuas we can. We just love a beautiful moving Chihuahua with a very pretty head and expression, correct neck and shoulder, big eyes and ears, and a happy-go-lucky temperament, and that is what we are working toward achieving in our breeding program. We are forever grateful to all of the breeders who have so generously shared their lines with us and helped us on the way to achieving our goals! Feel free to email (starsen@cox.net) with any questions about my dogs or puppies, nutrition, vaccinations, chihuahua health and behavioral issues, etc. We're always happy to help educate any chihuahua owner or owner-to-be!
