FOUR LITTLE RULES FOR MAKING SUGGESTIONS TO THE DEFINITIVE LIST
In order to waste neither your time nor mine, please use the following guidelines in submitting sync suggestions:
1) Make sure that what you've "heard" is indeed what
is actually being said in the song. This means you will need to open the CD and
read the lyrics in the little booklet. If you cannot do this for some odd
reason, then you will need to read them from a reliable website.
For example,
these are NOT acceptable suggestions for the Definitive
List because they are NOT what is being said in the songs:
a) "Taking away the moments that make up a dog day" --- sorry folks but these are not the words to the song Time. The actual lyrics are, "Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day". It's words about TIME. It's not an opportunity to find a match to do the scene where Mrs. Gulch takes Toto and stuffs the little dog into the basket.
b) "If you can hear this, you are dying" --- sorry again, folks, but this is not what is being said by the woman in the background of the song The Great Gig in the Sky. She says, "I never said I was frightened of dying". Virtually every Floydian knows this, and verification may be found in books such as Pink Floyd, The Visual Documentary by Miles, Andy and Barry Mabbett or The Pink Floyd Encyclopedia by Vernon Fitch.
2) Make sure that what you are suggesting is not already on the Definitive List and just worded differently than the way you would have. Also check in the Secret Definitive List section for observational and philosophical type syncs, and make sure that what you are suggesting is not already covered there as well.
3) Make sure that it is not just another "rhythm sync", that is, just a place where the strum of a guitar or the beat of a drum syncs up with Dorothy blinking her eye or some other similar action on the screen. There are enough of those already listed to make the point, and there are just way too many to actually list. Rest assured that most of these that are blatantly obvious have not escaped my line of vision over the past twelve-odd years.
4) Make sure that you've synced up the CD and the tape (or DVD) correctly, and that you have observed this thing that you want to submit to the Definitive List more than just once. The only exception to this rule is if you have the Pre-Recorded Sync of DSOTR, the Definitive Version on DVD, as this infallibly gives the same results every time and is the only reliable source.
And now, Grasshopper, you are ready . . .
