To begin, I am a huge sports card and memorabilia collector of my favorite players, but definitely more noticeable to you, an avid retailer and investor in the most sought after items on the market -- rookie cards. This hobby has turned strictly into a business for the vast majority, but I'm proud to say that I'm one of the seemingly very few that enjoys it from both the dealer and collector standpoint. In early 1997, the Sterbz Sports Cards website was established to enhance the marketability of my extra inventory, and develop relationships with other collectors sharing my interests. Saying that it's taken off quite a bit since then is an understatment, and I believe that collectors and retailers alike appreciate my service and commitment to the industry. The positive and constructive feedback I've received throughout the years has reassured me of this. Keeping in-tune with the latest developments on-line and reacting accordingly is one of my goals, and I see myself involved with this industry well into the future.
For the past few years, the craze in the industry has revolved around the grading phenomenon. People continually scramble through collections and "crack" sealed boxes and cases in the hopes of finding "gradeable" cards so they can in turn, submit them to professional grading services. The results they're seeking are the illustrious "GEM MINT" or "PRISTINE" grades, a venture that has become more compelling than the search for collections itself, and a topic that deserves it's own identity. In addition, since so many grading "companies" have surfaced since grading burst onto the scene, the "company" that has graded a card must also be considered. For the most part, the public has learned who's who and why, and as it turns out, only 3 reputable companies exist out of the 20 (!!) or so that are out there. They are BGS, PSA, and SGC, and all of the most noteworthy and respected dealers believe that only these 3 companies will remain strong in the future. Why? Well, bluntly stated, every other "company" out there is trash. The stories and experiences illustrating why this is the case are endless, and instead of detailing them for you, I simply ask you to refer to the main page of my site and the opinions of other reputable dealers and sources for justification (eBay, thePit.com, namely). As the old cliché goes, wisdom & numbers talk, bullsh!t walks.
As for my own inventory, I try to offer as much high quality and popular stuff as possible. Maintaining an inventory that consists of everything is simply an impossible task, especially with another occupation, so I've chosen to focus on the graded rookie cards of bona fide superstars and highly touted prospects. Opinions change slightly from year to year and sport to sport, but one aspect remains -- the most interest is, and always will be, in rookies. Throughout my 11+ years in the industry, I've compiled and continually strive to upgrade what many have called one of the most extensive inventories of premium rookies on-line." As those who've frequented my site and eBay auctions over the years will attest to, the overall quality of my inventory has continued to increase, while the volume has continued to decrease, particularly due to a much larger customer base, more on-line activity, and significantly more mail and pre-orders. The majority of the time, I don't even have a card in my possession for more than 1 week, thus why my website inventory lists remain very small and often appear to be outdated. People have learned to e-mail me with their wants, and I often just take it from there. I encourage you to do the same because many more times than not, I just haven't had the time to update the site. Also, if you're looking for something, odds are, I can find it, or at the least, point you in the right direction.
Lastly, my reputation
is one that simply cannot be refuted. I have worked extremely hard to
achieve my current status, and you can rest assured that I will uphold it
in all future transactions. Navigating through my site should be simple
and very self-explanatory, so please, sit back and enjoy!
If you'd like, feel free to contact me via e-mail, phone, or my guestbook.
Also, if you notice any errors or misrepresentations on the site, please let me know. Thanks!
