BPAA - Bowling Proprietors Association of America, an international organization.

Back Up - A bowler's release which hooks towards the hand which released it. For instance, the ball hooks right from a right-handed bowler.

Backend - This is the area of the lane closest to the pin deck. It is approximately the last 20-25 feet of the lane. This is the area of the lane that is not oiled. The oil can move to the backend of the lane due to bowling activity, which is referred to as "no backends". A lane that has "Strong backends" causes balls to hook a considerable amount on its last 20 feet.

Baker System - Assigns different bowlers to certain frames, predominately utilized by five-person teams in competition; specifically, it allocates the first and sixth frames to the first bowler, the second and seventh frames to the second bowler, and so on.

Balance Hole (a.k.a weight hole) - This is an extra hole in a ball which is used to get the ball within ABC specifications for imbalance (static balance). The maximum allowable diameter is 1-1/4" for ABC and 1-3/8" for PBA.

Bocci Style - Finishing one's approach on the same side as the release (for instance, if a right-handed bowler finishes on the right foot), the style used in the Italian game, bocci.

Break point - The location of the ball path which is closest to the gutter. Low RG balls have a sooner break point and high RG balls have a later break point.

Bridge - The bowling ball space between the index and middle fingers.

Brooklyn - The ball unintentionally hits opposite side of the headpin, it traditionally hits, resulting in a strike (for instance, a right handed bowler stikes by hitting the left side of the headpin).
