BPAA - Bowling Proprietors Association of America, an international organization. Back Up - A bowler's release which hooks towards the hand which released it. For instance, the ball hooks right from a right-handed bowler. Backend - This is the area of the lane closest to the pin deck. It is approximately the last 20-25 feet of the lane. This is the area of the lane that is not oiled. The oil can move to the backend of the lane due to bowling activity, which is referred to as "no backends". A lane that has "Strong backends" causes balls to hook a considerable amount on its last 20 feet. The maximum allowable diameter is 1-1/4" for ABC and 1-3/8" for PBA. Bridge - The bowling ball space between the index and middle fingers. Brooklyn - The ball unintentionally hits opposite side of the headpin, it traditionally hits, resulting in a strike (for instance, a right handed bowler stikes by hitting the left side of the headpin). |
