Span - The length between the drilled thumb and finger holes. Spare - Finishing all ten pins using two rolls within a frame. Spinner - This a style of bowling referring to how a bowler releases a ball. The bowler's wrist rotates around the top of the ball at release causing the ball to spin down the lane (similar to a top). The axis is tilted up in the air and the track is small and far away from the gripping holes. This style helps to get the ball down the lane before it hooks. Also called a "Accuracy Player" because this style of bowling gives more consistency. Surlyn - The common material used to cover bowling pins. Synthetic Lanes - Lanes which are not made of the traditional wood, rather man made materials; popular because they are easier to upkeep and more cost efficient. Synthetic Pins - Man made pin, rather than wood. |
