Nishimura started his six-game block on November 27 with a 759, three-game series including a 300 in the second game. He then rolled 300-300-300 for the ultimate 900-series and a new Japanese Professional Bowlers Association record of 1659 for six games, an average of 276,5. The last player with an approved 900-series was James Hylton, Salem, Oregon, USA, on May 2, 2001. Hylton was the No. 5 in the exclusive 900-club. He joined Jeremy Sonnenfeld, who was the first player to accomplish the feat February 2, 1997, Tony Roventini, Vince Wood and Robby Portalatin. Ryo Nishimura made history as he is the first non-U.S. member of the club and the first professional bowler. The PBA Tour 3-game high is 889, held by Jason Hurd (Tournament of Champions, Overland Park, KS, 1999). Mika Koivuniemi was going to break the PBA's 3-game high on national TV (850, held by Bob Learn Jr., Erie, PA, 1996) last Sunday but failed to strike in his 10th frame and wound up with 836. |
