Scenario 1, Fouling on a lane you are not bowling on. Here's a good scenario. Lets say your in league play. One particular bowler (lets give him the name Jim) likes to go walk over about 1 or 2 lanes. In 10th frame, Jim gets up on the approach. Throws his ball and walks over 2 lanes and his foot goes past the foul line on the lane thats 2 lanes down from where he's bowling. And Jim just happened to get a strike. Both teams are debating over it. Does that count as a foul or not??Ruling: Yes, does not matter what lane you are on. If you throw your ball and go over about 3 lanes, and your foot goes past that foul line on that lane, it is considered a foul. And if your wondering, walking accross lanes is not illegal, but it is very annoying.Scenario 2, Lane breaks down, time to go home? In the Guys and Gals Mixed League, the 10 pin kept falling out of the rack on lane two. Although we can never pick up a 10 pin anyway said the bowlers, they wanted to keep bowling on the lane. But the proprietor told us he couldn't fix the lane until the next day, so we should just bowl out on one lane. Is this legal, or should we have waited, and bowled another time?Ruling: Although it would be nice to aviod shooting at 10 pins, the proprietor was correct. If there is an equipment failure, it is permissible to bowl a game or series on one lane if another pair is not avaliable.Scenario 3, Youth Coaches Your daughter Little Jane bowls Saturday mornings on a sanctioned youth league. Youth Coach Bob helps little Jane during league play since the bowling alley provides the bowlers with coaches. And one way Coach Bob coaches the kids is by walking out onto the lane, and has one foot in the gutter, and the other foot in the other gutter, and points onto the lane where little Jane should throw her ball. So little Jane gets up on the approach, throws her ball straight into the gutter. Coach Bob stops it with his foot, and takes the ball out of the gutter, and gives it back to little Jane to throw again. Can he do this?Ruling: No he cannot, since it's a sanctioned league, and you are bowling for average, Coach Bob is not allowed to interfere with her bowling or give little Jane second chances. |
