I was very lucky to get Spider Man to help me with this project. |
Remove back cover held on by two screws. |
These screws will be very tight & may need to be heated to remove. |
Start disassembly by removing all the hog rings & clips. |
Then you can remove the old foam to get to the frames. |
If you have any cracks in the frames, now is the time to have them welded. |
Sand blast or sand the frames the best you can. |
Spider man did a great job on the paint & primer. |
Since the bolts are over a quarter of a centry old expect them to break. |
The finished frames, now lets tackle some of the other parts. |
All the springs were removed. Replace if they are rusted to bad. |
This is the seat release parts repainted. |
Try to salvage your old trim since the new ones are $50 each. |
The seat tracks need the same treatment & some greasing up. |
Save old foam to make outdoor cushions for when you work on car. |
It's always a happy day when the Fed EX man comes with new goodies. |
I needed a little help opening the box as you can see. |
Here are the new covers, foam & hardware. |
Now its time to put it all back together. Lets Get to it. |
If you don't use new foam the material will be loose. Note heights. |
Note: you will ride higher in your new seats. |
A view of the new hardware. I bagged the clips seperately. |
Cut the material on one end when the rods will slip in. |
A view of the new clips which you will pull through the foam. |
Ready to place the foam on top. Don't pull up material yet. |
After you pull the hooks through to upper rods place the frame on. |
Spider Man easily squeezed on the hog rings. |
Before & after photos. |
The whole project cost about $350. Saving over $400 to do myself. |
Heres the whole gang at our recent club photo |
