Msgr. Arthur T. Geoghegan, born in Providence was ordained a priest on June 7, 1941 by the Most Rev. Francis P. Keough. His first assignment was as Assistant at St. Benedict's in Conimicut. In September of 1941 he attended Divinity College in Washington, DC returning to Rhode Island in June of 1942, and began serving as an Assistant at St. Ann's in Cranston. In September of 1942 he served as a professor at Our Lady of Providence Seminary. In October of 1950 he was appointed Assistant at the Cathedral and in September 1951 was appointed Rector at the Cathedral. On February 23, 1952 he was appointed Papal Chamberlain and given the title of Monsignor. In January 4, 1954 he was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Schools and served as the Chaplain at St. Maria's Home in Providence. Then in March of 1956 served as the Dean of Catholic Teachers' College, and in 1969 was appointed Superintendent of Catholic Schools a position he held until is appointment as Pastor of St. Margaret Church in March of 1968.
True to the spirit of Saint Margaret, Msgr. Geoghegan not only improved the physical facilities of the church but furthered the education of the young by assuring that St. Margaret School was a school of excellence. The parish was well served until his retirement in August 1984. Msgr. still spends time at St. Margaret's each year during summer vacation. Msgr. Geoghegan celebrated his 60th Anniversary of Ordination on May 23, 2001.
