Dwight Yoakam -- A Long Way From Home

Dwight Yoakam is one of those artists many people either like or don't like his Rockabilly style. Folks in Phoenix must really like Dwight because he was the main act at the Fabulous Phoenix Fourth on Independence Day in downtown Phoenix. Even CMT seems to like Dwight, they made him the June showcase artist, of course his new album came out then also. This album like most of his other works take a little getting use to as his style differs from album to album.

If you haven't heard, Dwight has gone into the biscuit business, with his long time idle Buck Owens. It seems Dwight who lives in Los Angeles, bought himself a boat somewhere up north during the winter. Well, he was coming home Dwight was stopped near Bakersfield by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and was told he could not bring his boat through the mountain pass since there was too much snow. So Dwight was able to stay with Buck Owens for a while until the pass cleared enough for him to pass. Meanwhile, Dwight wanted some biscuits, but without the sugar. It seems Dwight is a very clean country boy, he does not drink, smoke or eat sugar. Well, to make a long story short, the biscuits were a huge hit and this is how Dwight got into the biscuit business. Hey, if Jimmy Dean can do it with Sausages, why can't Dwight with Biscuits. Better yet, may they ought to get together, who knows what could happen.

So far, the only song which has received any air play is Things Change.

If you are big Dwight fan and know his songs well, you will recognize some of his older musical style are somewhat similar in his new songs. Each song on this album is very different from any other on the album but most you will recognize the musical styles.

This is another album, that will slowly grow on you. As I have discovered with past albums I have bought, once the radio stations begin to play more off it, the album grows on you. So far, there has only been the one release Things Change. Hopefully the radio stations will begin to play more off the A Long Way Home album.

Well, I need to apologize for what has been happening these last couple months. As you have noticed, Clint's Country Cantina has undergone some major renovations. Combine this with a grueling five-weeks taking six-credit hours of summer school, the reviews have suffered. The Brooks & Dunn and Dwight Yoakam reviews were shorter than I would have preferred. I do promise to make sure September's Review will be better.  Questions or comments about this review, use the e-mail link below.
