1998 Side Note: As I mentioned in the reviews index, I will usually review the newest album of the selected artist. However, I noticed the copyright on this album is 1996. I am not positive, but I am sure Lorrie has released a new album since. On more thing, I am not sure about other parts of the country, but here in Phoenix, there is not much radio play of Lorrie Morgan. I think I heard Good As I Was To You on the radio may be half a dozen times. Happy Holidays! There is something very distinctive about Lorrie Morgan's style. Many of her songs are about being treated badly by men who don't realize how stupid they were. With songs such as I Just Might Be (track #2), "I just might be the best thing you ever threw away" or I Can Buy My Own Roses (track #5). This particular song is a good lesson to us men, roses are not going to make things better again. My
personal favorite is Good As I Was To You (track #9), with great
instrumentals on piano and guitar as well as the lyrics. There are
those songs which are great for proposals. However, how do you find a
song that would be just perfect for dumping your other? Well this song
should be classified as just that, a dumping song. These lyrics are
very powerful and says the message very well when she catches him with
another woman: But the best line is "Honey, you can have him, I don't want him anymore." The ultimate slap in the face. You have to hear the whole song to understand just how stupid this guy is and why he deserves this. Not all the songs on this album are like this. There are couple really good songs. She walks beside the wagon (track #10), is a great song about a single working mother and her son who falls in love with a red radio flyer wagon. This is a nice way to the wrap of the CD. Well,
that is all for 1998, thanks for coming by the Country Cantina! I am
going to start off 1999 with Unbelievable, the newest from Diamond Rio!
