Dixie Chicks -- Wide Open Spaces

TRIPLE PLATINUM!!!
As of January 11, 1999

The Dixie Chicks are:
Natalie Maines
: Lead Vocals
Emily Erwin: Vocals, Dobro (type of steel guitar), Banjo and Acoustic Guitar
Martie Seidel: Vocals, Fiddle & Mandolin

Here are three girls, two of which are sisters (Emily & Martie) that are wonderful! Their first release off of Wide Open Spaces was I Can Love You Better (track #1), followed by There's Your Trouble (track #4) and then Wide Open Spaces (track #2). The newest release, You Were Mine (track #5).

When I first heard I Can Love You Better and found out it was by the Dixie Chicks, I thought interesting name, wonder if they will get anywhere? The song is very country sounding with the fiddle, banjo and guitars. The vocals have good range and are very clear. Looking around on a fan's web site (see below) I discovered they have been around since the early '90s, opening up for acts such as George Jones, George Strait and other big names.

The first release, There's Your Trouble is a great country song with good use of instruments and vocals, they got potential. Then the next release, Wide Open Spaces, wow! Now there is a country song! The fiddle intro (played by Martie), a great story line and then combine Natalie's lead vocals with Emily and Martie singing background and you got a great sounding song. My perception of the Dixie Chicks really changed here, now they really got something good. That was until...

...the release of You Were Mine. Just when you thought they couldn't get any better! Another great story line and lyrics, but all three vocals are together and that really adds on to the power of the lyrics.

This album is well worth purchasing and I really hope they will make another album. They have a good thing going here and I sure hope they continue to get the great air play they have now. They have one on both CMA and American Music Awards! It will also to be interesting to see what the ACM awards bring, I have not seen if they been nominated for new vocal group.
