October, 1998 This is a very good and interesting album, right from the start. The very first track is a rare sound of Martina at the very young age of 7. This title I'm Little But I'm Loud (track #1), describes Martina perfectly, then and now! Next is Happy Girl (track #2), sounds a lot like Terri Clark's, Poor, Poor Pitiful Me off her Just The Same album. It has the same fast paced tempo as Clark's Poor, Poor Pitiful Me. The next song, A Broken Wing (track #4) demonstrates Martina's vocal abilities. This song which debuted over a year ago (I remember hearing it for the first time my first semester at ASU in October 1997) and the video generated some questionable with the ending. Listen to the lyrics on this one and let it be lesson to both men and especially women. Have you ladies every thought you had finally found "Mister Right", only to be disappointed, again? Wrong Again (track #5), describes this scenario all too well. My favorite is the duet with Clint Black, which also is featured on his Nothin' But The Tail Lights CD. It is amazing how well Clint & Martina sound together in Still Holding On (track #7 Martina & track #5 Clint). Moving into the second half of the album with track #8, Whatever You Say. This is another track which really shows off Martina's vocal abilities. The lyrics are great and describes well a typical conversation between a husband and wife or boyfriend girlfriend. "...I know you can hear me, but I am not sure you are listening." The last track I am going to touch on is #14, Valentine. Many times I am listening to Phoenix's light rock station (you be amazed by how much country music they play) when our three country stations are either yaking non-stop or in their endless commercial breaks. Anyway, I have heard Valentine many times on this station and they kept saying it was Jim Brickman, well sort of, he does play the piano, but it is Martina who is signing. Once, I think I heard them correctly identify the song as Martina McBride with Jim Brickman. This track also appears on Jim Brickman's album, I do not know the title of the album. Evolution is one of the few albums I have really enjoyed. This is another "get your money's worth" album packed with 14 tracks (1 of which is the theme song for Martina). If you enjoy Martina McBride this is a must get! Well, that is all for this month. Next month is November and I will be reviewing "Stepping Stone" from Laurie White. Take care y'all!
