On March 11, 2006, after 143 days of no measurable rain in Phoenix, the skies opened up. Chandler and other East Valley cities received up to 3 inches of rain. The storm also caused the snow level to drop to around 2000 feet producing a rare dusting of snow on the Valley's surrounding mountains.
