This list was created out of the need to help owners with
Dolby Surround decoders find recordings made to bring
out the most of their systems.
These recordings will also benefit owners of other matrix
surround sound decoders (Circle sound, Quadraphonic)
by providing 4 or 5 channel sound with a more even
sound stage (although you will not hear exactly what the
engineer intended, the experience is still quite pleasing).
This is not a complete list. Information about
radio broadcasts, and any media using Dolby Pro Logic
sound (except video which is covered widely) is greatly
appreciated and encouraged.
If you happen to know of a recording done in the Dolby
Pro Logic format that is not listed here, please
pass it on.
Country of origin has been listed to help in the search of a
recording. Catalog numbers apply only to the country of
origin. However, it should not be assumed the recording was
only available in that country.
For additions to this list, include:
1. Artist
2. Title of album
3. Record label
4. Catalog number
5. Format (CD, LP, cassette, etc.) since catalog numbers change
w/format
6. Country of origin (U.S., U.K., etc.) since catalog numbers change
with country of origin
7. Year of release
8. Any comments that might be helpful like who distributes the
recording and address and phone number if known.

There are many methods currently used for encoding a Dolby Surround
Sound Recording. One method is to use 4 channel Quadraphonic recordings
from the '70's. By running the 4 channel tape thru a Sound Console and
then output via 4 channels to a Dolby Encoder. Another Method is to
record the entire performance to 2 or more channels and mix them from
what ever number originally recorded to 4 channels that are fed to the
Dolby Encoder.
Some events are recorded with multiple stereo microphone groups placed
throughout the performance space in order to record the natural
acoustics, reverberant ques and phase data and do not use a Dolby
Encoder at all.
But probably one of the most common approaches is to record the
performance via two channels. After the recording is done, the two
channels are sent to a computer where room environments are added and
then fed out of the computer via 4 channels to a Dolby Encoder.
