Q2: I want to learn how to surf. How do I learn?
Answer: The only way to learn is to get out there and try try try. No one's going to become a great surfer after 1 day of lessons. How good you get depends largely on how often you paddle out. Push yourself harder each time and you'll be that much better the next day.
Q3: What is the best day, time, place to surf?
Answer: Any day, time, place you can get out. For health reasons, it's actually best to surf early morning or late afternoon to avoid extreme sun exposure. Always apply heavy sunblock at least 15 minutes before sun exposure and consider using a hat when it's really bright (yes there are hats that can stay on).
Q4: Do you guys/girls surf even when there's no class ex. holidays?
Answer: Most of the time. Ask around if anyone plans on paddling out. If we're not paddling out at the Strand, we're probably planning some get together at another beach.
Q5: Is the water clean? Is it safe to surf in?
Answer: General rule of thumb is to stay out of the water 3 days after significant rainfall. Don't swallow the water and don't pee in it either -sharks will get you if you do :) . For current water quality reports click HERE.
Q6: What are the current surf conditions?
Answer: Quickest way to find out is to call the beach and weather reports.
Imperial Beach: 619-559-3954

Q7: What board should I buy?
Answer: This is a really tough one and requires you to consider several personal factors. Make sure you've read the "Surfboard Design" article under the Info page. Remember that SWCsurf members receive special discounts from some board makers so check out the Shop area.
