Save the Bursage

Seems like many Tucsonans do not like bursage. You get burs in your flip flops. But it is the dominant shrub in much of our beautiful desert. It nurses the baby barrels and saguaros and slows water runoff during violent summer storms. If you eliminate these from your yard, why not just pave it and put up a parking lot? Triangle Leaf Bursage is unique to our desert.Trust me, it looks better than dirt.Bursage Photo Album

My favorite plant stuff

Elephant Tree We are trying to grow one of these in our garden but it is cold in Tucson. Ok.. a cold night last year toasted it. Next time I will keep it in the greenhouse.

PCC's Sonoran Desert Ecology notes

Sonoran palms yah. Didn't miss a beat in that ridiculus March 2002 freeze.

Arizona is the USA's land of Ferocactus. Some other USA cacti ranges.

Western Red Cedar Pacific Madrone (Arbutus) But wait... here is an Arizona Madrone Yikes, did the Bullock toast this one just 3 weeks after the photo?

Fungi to be with. Raoul Quinault Boletus . Yes there is water in Az... and so are shrooms and some good eating. Yah.

Cool Greenhouse Project

I built the structure but never covered it. Seeds from Native Seed Search don't need it. Chainmail against local rodents is higher priority (they will leave your versatile chard alone, but watch out for the cholla seedlings). Delineates place in yard though. (Over septic). Plans

Unrelated, but here is our recent backyard solar irrigation project.

Favorite Music and Food

Major Lingo Rock/worldbeat/psychedelic Az dance band. Is the sound of the Coconino plateau for me.

Mr. Dave Slide guitar, with matching vocal for each tune.

Frank and Woody Show windmills and rearrangin' hot sticky Julys.

Los Dos Molinos flat enchilada with egg.

All Good Brew and Valkyrie for the strong. And besides Leavenworth, big beer (IPA) from Port Townsend that blew our gallon growler just outside Sequim. But... Nimbus Pale makes Tucson palatable... oh where is Pusch Ridge Lizzard?
