Edition 2007-1
COMMODORES CORNER by
Chuck Towle
Its
Spring! Time to clean off the boat, put
some go-fast on the hull, and get it out to
We have many sailors who are committed to making the
SYC grow this year. There are lots of
plans to make this a great year for SYC.
Three sessions of sailing lessons are planned for this spring. We have 8 youth signed up for the first
lessons in late April, early May.
Several more have expressed an interest.
We also have adult lessons scheduled for mid-May and another session of
youth lessons scheduled for June. Details below.
To encourage more new sailors to participate in racing, we have added a silver fleet who will race a shorter course and have monthly
series awards.
Details below.
Races are scheduled for Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Details
below. In addition, come join us on
Thursday evenings and help with the Youth Group training and races.
Don and Adeline
Towle have again volunteered to run the Race
Committee on both Saturday mornings and
Wednesday evenings again this year. If
you dont want to race your boat, come on out and visit with Don and Adeline on
the race committee boat. They can always
use some assistance.
The youth group
has six good MC scows. The two SYC sunfish
have been restored to good condition.
What we need is more youth sailors.
If you know anyone ages 14 to 20 that might like to learn to race
sailboats, give them the attached flyer and encourage them to come out to the
lake.
The SYC will again host the Sunflower Games Sailing
Regatta in July. We are giving free sailboat rides to the public on two
afternoons during the year. Details below.
We have social events scheduled for each month this
year. Most are scheduled near a full
moon to encourage some moonlight sailing.
Details below.
2007 will definitely be year of good growth for SYC. I look forward to
seeing you at the lake

Welcome New
Members
Its only April, and we
already have new members in 2007.
Julie Bennett and her
boyfriend Josh Sugg recently joined SYC. They have Doug's old C-Scow.
Julie was an associate
member before and took the club's sailing class, but didn't
have time to get out on the water after that. Julie and Josh are both
looking forward to getting the boat on the water and learning to move it around
the lake.
Paul Bures purchased a C-Scow in March and plans to sail with his daughter Sarah and sons Jacob, Zachary and David. His wife Sherry (Towle) Bures and his daughter Maria may even take a sailboat ride with them on occasion. Oldest son, Jacob, age 11, has been learning to sail over the last two years and may take over as skipper if Paul blinks.

The Youth Group has six MC scows and two newly restored sunfish to use. And we have received donations to purchase more boats when needed.
The cost to join is only $20.00 for the
year. Members are encouraged to
buy/bring their own life jacket.
Meetings are on Thursday evenings
starting May 3rd - 6:00 to 8:30. This will be a time to learn more about
sailing, learn to sail, and we hope to have short races to work on skills.
Members who have learned to sail can
also sail in the SYC races on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
We need everyones help in promoting
more youth members. We have a new flyer,
copy below. Tell your friends about this
exceptional opportunity. We need at
least 15 to 20 youth to get this program going strong.
