Begin each practice session carefully checking the way you play so
you can sound better and better each day!
Check: Bow Hold Instrument Hold Left Hand Position
Begin by playing each open string 4 times. Make a beautiful sound!
* Begin down bow
* Open and close your bow arm
* Keep a good bow hold
* Bow straight
* One string at a time
Then you may mix up the strings. Play any combination of 4 open strings.
Then play each of your D string notes 4 times (with your 3rd, 2nd,
1st fingers, then open ):
G G G G F# F# F# F# E E E E D D D D
* Violin/Viola: Hand below tape (closer to scroll)
* Finger tips on the tapes
* Powerful finger, not thumb
* Straight, flexible wrist
* Look at the picture of the left hand on the separate hand-out
Then play one of each note going down (G F# E D- 3 2 1 0 ), then
going up (D E F# G-
0 1 2 3 ). After that, play different combinations of these 4 notes. It’s
like making up your own music! Examples: F# G F# G G E G E G D G D F# G E
D
Then play the assignment. Be sure to look at the Practice Strategies hand-out to help you learn the music.
After you do all this, play anything else for fun!
