1. Know all the notes you need to play before you try to play a piece.
2. Know all the rhythms before you try to play a piece.
3. Be able to look at the music while you are playing.
4. Take a piece apart, then put it back together.
5. Slow up a piece, then play it in tempo.

Point and Read – bounce from note to note.

-saying where on staff
-saying (or singing) note names
-counting
-saying (or singing) finger numbers

Air Bows - make sure you keep a good bow hold & bow straight down and up.

-saying (or singing) note names
-saying (or singing) bow direction, down and up.
-counting out loud
-for p. 22 and following, saying “small” for eighth notes, “big” for quarter notes.
-for p. 24 and following, saying “slow bow” for half notes.

Take Apart, Then Put Back Together

-Work on 1 measure at a time. On 2 measures at a time. On 4 measures at a time.
-Use different ways of practicing
-Air Bows
-Pointing and reading
-Plucking before bowing
-Slower, then faster
-Give yourself time to prepare your fingers
-Determine what you need to work on.
-Music Reading
-Left hand. Right hand.
-Just one measure.
-After you take a piece apart, be sure to play it all the way through as it is written.
