So what about the neighborhood? Copper Leaf is situated in a part of town that is currently in a state of revitalization. That's just City Planner talk for "it's kind of the crappy part of town that we're trying to make better." In fact, on February 26, 2005, there was an article in the Arizona Republic about Copper Leaf and the South Mountain Village revitalization.

Why did we decide to purchase in a "revitalization" area? Two huge reasons: the price was right. We could get more house for our money here than in the "ritzier" areas like Ahwatukee or Scottsdale. And more importantly, the neighborhood is practically right across the street from Desert Marigold, where the kids go to school. Since charter schools don't provide transportation (not that we're too crazy about school busses anyway) the commuting issue is huge. Gas is a considerable expense in a city this big. Not to mention the time spent in a car can be tiring and monotonous. We have always liked living close to where we work and school. It's a priority for us.

Copper Leaf will be fairly big, 750 homes, with 3 different types of communities. There are condos, medium-sized houses, and large houses. The condos are a bit too small for us, the large houses are too expensive, and the medium-sized houses are just right. Here's the neighborhood in it's entirety:
