Welcome to my home in cyberspace. My interest is genealogy and I am researching the line of Christopher McEwen who was probably born in Ireland around 1775. He immigrated to the US around 1810 - 1815. He first settled in New Jersey and later removed to Plumville, Indiana Co., PA where he resided until his death in 1843. He had two children, John Homer McEwen who was a PA State Representative, and Jane McEwen Wynkoop.

ChristopherMcEwen is the earliest McEwen, in our line, that I have proven along with 2 children, John Homer McEwen and Jane McEwen Wynkoop. There may be a third child named James McEwen MD, who is listed in a McEwen biography but does not show up in the will of Christopher McEwen. John Homer McEwen and Jane McEwen Wynkoop are both listed in the will.
*William Wright McEwen MD, great grandson of Christopher McEwen, was my great grandfather. He was born in PA and raised in IL. In 1879 he moved to Mound Valley, Labette Co., KS where he spent the next 21 years practicing medicine and engaging in public affairs. He maintained a private hospital in Mound Valley. He was mayor of Mound Valley for 2 terms, an alderman, and for 6 terms a clerk of the board of education. In 1899 Dr. McEwen and his family removed to Durango, La Plata Co., CO where he set up a medical practice . In 1903 he was elected mayor of Durango. In 1904 he was elected to the 15th General Assembly of the State of Colorado. In his later years he developed heart trouble and moved to San Diego, CA. where he resided until his death in 1941.
Researching the McEwen family has been a rewarding experience. I have discovered real people who did great things. I have unfolded tragedy and loss. I have gone beyond birth dates and death dates into who they were and how they lived. They were progressive people who produced 5 physicians and several politicians.
I will continue my search for the McEwens prior to America. All of the documentation I have found lists the birthplace of Christopher McEwen and John Homer McEwen as Ireland. Our family records show them born in Scotland. This is a puzzle I am trying to unravel. I will update my records when and if I find the ancestors of Christopher McEwen.
