{short description of image}Turner Genealogy

I am working on the family of my great, great grandmother, Elizabeth Turner. I believe that she was the daughter of John Turner and Lydia Dill. I know that her mother's surname was Dill or Dills and her father's name was John Turner. John Turner was born in North Carolina and migrated to Madison County, KY where he married Lydia Dill. They migrated from KY to Boone Co., MO and then to Morgan Co., IL. According to Elizabeth Turner's daughter, Julia Edwards Hazen, Elizabeth Turner lived in Boone Co., MO when she was a child. Her family later moved to Morgan Co., IL where Elizabeth Turner was married to John Edwards. Elizabeth died in Nuckolls Co., NE. I have created this site in hopes that someone can shed light on the family of John Turner and Lydia Dill and offer corrections if I am wrong. Email:tarie2@cox.net

Second Generation:

John Turner b 11 Nov 1772; d about 1854; m Lydia Dill in Madison Co., KY

Most of my information on the family of Elizabeth Turner came from a letter from my great grandmother, Julia Edwards Hazen. Her information came from her mother, Elizabeth Turner. She said her mother had four brothers and four sisters. I have not been able to find the three remaining sisters.

I don't have the birth order of the following children but I believe they are the children of John Turner and Lydia Dill.

1. John D Turner b about 1799 in KY; d 1877 in Des Moines, Polk Co., m Elizabeth Strode

(I have proven John D. Turner to be the son of a John Turner who migrated from KY to Boone Co., MO and on to Morgan Co., IL. The older John Turner was living with John D. Turner and his family in Morgan Co., IL in 1850. He was listed as 78 years old. John D. Turner later moved to Des Moines, IA. He is listed in the census there and died in 1877 and is buried there. His wife Elizabeth Strode is also buried there. His two sons Mahlon Turner and Giles Turner are also buried in Des Moines. My great grandmother, Julia Hazen, said her mother's brother John lived in Des Moines, IA)

2. Benjamin Turner

(Documentation from Mason Co., IL lists Judge Smith Turner's brother as B. Turner. Smith Turner referred to a relative that his brother Benjamin was doing well)

3. William Turner

(Smith Turner referred to a relative that his brother William was doing well)

4. Levina Turner m Samuel Cragg

(Documentation from Mason Co., IL lists Levina Cragg to be the sister of Judge Smith Turner. Levina Turner was married in Morgan Co., IL. to Samuel Cragg. He would have been her 2nd husband)

5. Smith Turner b Aug 1815 in Montgomery Co., KY; d 6 Jun 1884 in Chilocothe, Livingston Co., MO; m first Ella F. Field; m second Caroline Taylor; m third Maria.

(My great grandmother, Julia Edwards Hazen, said her mother had a brother who was a judge and lived in Chilocothe, MO. Smith Turner was born in Montgomery Co., KY. His family moved to Boone Co., MO and then to Morgan Co., IL. He was living Mason Co., IL. in 1850. He died in Chilocothe Co., MO and was the only Turner there at that time who was a lawyer and judge. His obituary lists him as Judge Smith Turner.)

6. ELIZABETH TURNER b 16 Oct 1820 in MO; d 1 Nov 1885/86 in Nuckolls Co., NE; m John Edwards 7 Jan 1839 in Morgan Co., IL
